You dont need your faction modules, or tech 2 frigates.
I read a story about a Kestrel on here that solo ransomed a few people.
So my partner Brennos and I went out in a Vexor and a Merlin.
Now, the Merlins brilliant. Fits a MWD without losing too much cap (large cap to begin with) and the high slots are fantastic. Its also symmetrical. :p
We all know how much the Vexor pwns.
--
It began with a Cyclone. "Should we?" we thought... "Could be funny." I said. So we did. Flying at 1.6km's at a Battlecruiser, in a ship worth a small fraction of the price, I locked on when in range of my scrammer. Orbitting at an unbelievable speed, the Cyclone couldnt hit me. Shortly after, it webbed me, but was still having trouble locking me down before Brennos and his drones jumped in.
Ripping through his shields, then through his armour, we ransomed him for a small 5 million ISK. Laughing, we warped to various moons and bathed in our glory.
--
An hour later we locked down a Harpy and ransomed her, with considerable ease, and 2 cruiser pilots in separate systems failed to pay and lost their ships.
So in all, a Cyclone, a Harpy, a Minmatar thing, and a Thorax.
No casualties.
So save money, get in your tech 1 frigs and cruisers, go out and hunt people! Be ballsy!
Unbelievable amount of fun.

You should have killed that harpy and here is why.
Most T2 pilots might have faction gear and or all T2 fittings.
When you look at a player, judge how long they have been playing EVE. Try to set the ransom for 1 million per month...
In other words, if that harpy had a gisti shield booster, that is 70 million right there! Dread gurista amp---90 million right there!
Anyway, a great read! |

Mmm, good point that. Hell I fly with faction modules on my Ferox, heh, but I keep that for special occasions.
I'll try and improve my post, I literally got up 30 mins ago, and thought I should make an account of it.
But i'm really really impressed with the Merlin. So much so, I'm getting a Hawk! Fly safe |

Rein, that sounds like Goonfleet "strategy" to me.
Anyway, a few days ago some sorry wannabe tried to intimitate me in Goinard with his battleship (I fly a good equipped Vexor) - then I sent my drones out.
I wanted to pod him, to teach him a lesson of about "why not to **** with an MFR / S.E.G.I.", but as soon as he realized my drones ate his structure, he warped out.

I use vexors and thoraxes in combat with a combination of Goons in frigates backing me up. Alot of times I solo tho.

My guess is if the harpy had the t2 stuff, it wouldn't have lost to 2 t1 frigs so easily.
Most common noob mistake I've seen so far is buying a ship you can't outfit properly.

I consider the second best variant of stuff to be the best bang for the buck.
Example:
Compressed Coil guns.
Affordable and very good.

And so pops my Merlin...
I saw a Caracal, warped quickaly after it an confidently assaulted it! Tanking it, and taking it to 40% shields, I had to warp out eventually. She withstood alot! So i pick a moon and hit warp.
Right into the bloody middle of a POS.
POP.
And so i head to Jita after work to refit a Merlin.
Doh. Fly safe |

Edited by: Buraken v2 on 23/02/2006 17:29:57 Welcome to eve @ 2003, this is old news, but people seem to love to bring it up 10x a day.
But on the other hand a Raven/Megat/Apoc/[insert whatever battleship] with only super faction stuff can take down a few BS alone, thats more fun isnt it?

I like T1 frigs because they give me the feeling of "this is how the game is supposed to be". T2 frenzy makes me sad, because it renders so much of the fun stuff impractical in almost every situation. T1 frigs after Mk2 changes are soooo much fun to fit and fly, especially when you ignore T2 mods. Problem is no one takes you seriously if you choose to fly them, because interceptors and assault frigs are much more reliable, and group ops are about watching eachothers backs. To quote an old corp mate: "Im not gonna risk my battleship if you decide to fly T1 frigs for support, you either max out or you don't fly with me."
Oh how I dream of T1 wolfpacks, how I hate myself for not playing Eve before T2 was introduced...

Yep, I am usually a lil dissappointed because I spend hours on my setups, getting every single bit of power/damage/speed out of it, and then realize how in most situations it's complete overkill...
But I love using T1 Cruisers/Frigs to hunt with T1 gear ^_^

Nice to see someone t1 frig piracy. Wow I mean over here at S.N. we try to keep our customers guessing by what we fly and who's in what. Grats on discovering the the joy of t1 frigs and a little thinking outside the box.

That's not how the nursery rhyme goes! This isn't a goonfleet thread it's a frigate piracy thread, leave that stuff for other discussions. Some people just have to take shots every damn time we're mentioned...
Frigates are very effective pirates. A couple frigates can take down very expensive ships who aren't set up for anti-frigate warfare. Just gotta watch out for drone carriers >.<
And orbit outside of 5km for god's sake...

If you think herding around 80+ frigates with most of the pilots having under 2m SP is easy, I emplore you to try it someday.
And I would have ransomed that cyclone for more than 5m, he had more than 5m in fittings on alone, plus the cost of insurance. You let him off way to easily.

/me smiling about the thought of having 80+ frigates at close range to a bs equipped with a few large smartbombs.
Best bang for the cap ever.
As for the guy who attacked me:
He fled. And since I'm not a I had no warp scrambler.

So that the people who think that a BS equipped with Large Smartbombs can kill an entire frigate fleet don't get to do even a single point of damage.
Frigates are easily popped by SB's, but anyone who knows how to fly a frigate should know how to avoid being caught by one.

Anyone knows who flies a frigate especialy one as a Merlin that isn't as buff as some of the tech 2 ships how easy it is to be snapped by a row of smartbombs or take a good chunk out of you. Sure you can avoid them orbiting out of range. Yet sometimes it don't work that way. Especialy when you get caught in a path. More or less can happy in 15km warp in points and other situtions. None the less smartbombs are generaly used not for frigate defense but for ballistic/drone defense.
Anyone in something fast/close range should fear 0-10km. Nos is deadly yes but you can still get away in mid MWD compared to being ripped from the sky. Why do you think people like crows/kessies so much. It's easy.

Tried it once against 30 frigs, wasn't that impressive. Blew up a handful of them before they learned to back off. I died gloriously and everyone seemed to have alot of fun, with the possible exception for the guy who got podded.
