Edited by: KIPPAN on 03/09/2003 09:58:15 Came across a giant asteriod with a radius of 109000m. Was unable to get close enough to mine or scan it.
Distance to asteriod does not take radius in account so if an asteriod has a radius exceeding miner max range it is impossible to mine and will continue to grow indefinetly it seems.
Surely miners operate on the surface of the asteriod, not the center of it.

this is a planet LOL the cool thing is that he "eat" other asteroid.... if you mine it all you will see others inside of it...
if all asteroids become one throw time they sould become planets..... next step is to mine this planet :) ============================================ Colossus Technologies The first and oldest corp in eve! BadIronTree Head of Production

Actually i don't have any problems with this on tranq i mined alot of 30km+ radius roids. (with normal Miner1's)

I was mining an asteroid 27km across the other day, said I was almost 30km away from it yet my XeCls with a range of 11km worked

yes it work people but if it is 50km+ you cant even lock on them :))) ============================================ Colossus Technologies The first and oldest corp in eve! BadIronTree Head of Production

It almost seems as like your targeting display using the exact centre of the roid to measure distance. Therefore with huge roids there is a big difference between the centre of the roid and its surface. Fourtunatly, our mining lasers mine the surface of the roid, so its not such a big problem. Hence why it appears that we can mine from 30km out

... Put a sensor booster or two on the ship? :s
(although with 'roids of this size, it should just be possible to build a station/mine on the surface of it...)

Ah, it's a lock problem rather than the miner range vs radius bug. Sorry for the bad analysis.
Interesting that it will "swallow" other 'roids. Is that what deep core mining is about?

i think the deep core mining is a skill that increases mining lazers range, say 10% per level.

Deep core mining skill will only apply to deep core mining, and not to the current rocks or lasers we know. It ain't over till the fat lady falls on ya!
