So an interview with CCP's David Reid suggested that there is some kindn of upcoming expansion giving access to to parts of the universe.
One thing that we do know is that all points in space have an x,y,z position. When we jump through stargates, acceleration gates, and jump bridges we are just travelling in a direction between two points.
What if the expansion let us both cooperatively map out possible new areas with new sensor technology, finding new stars, charting their celestials, determining the worth of these nearby systems, then building gates that are close enough to take us to these locations?
-You could potentially have nullsec/wh systems within jump range of highsec. -The access to these systems would only initially be possible through some kind of new probing (deep space??). -What if these fast warping frigates were necessary in order to make these long trips?
Possible scenario: E.g. You scan and pinpoint a new location with your deployable 10 lightyear range, deep space scanner. You notice it looks like it would be closer to a nearby lowsec system, so you move on over there and deploy your scanner again to find it is in fact, only 2.5 lightyears away. Now to get into the system, you have to actually travel there. 2.5 lightyears is about 157,000 AU. At 5 AU/s this would take an extremely long 9+ hours not counting capacitor recharging.
It could possibly take longer than a day if it were closer to 10 ly. However, if you are getting 25+ AU/s warp, such a trip would take under 2 hours. Then once you arrive, you could light a cyno bridging more resources in, scan for signatures/celestials, assess the system's value etc.
You would then face a choice...Do you build a bridge from a nearby system that you may or may not be able to control, efficiently letting you jump to/from this location, or do you more covertly build up the system with more expensive cyno-oriented means. Players watching the starmap would see cyno beacons going on and off in unconnected areas as an indicator of your work, and it wouldn't be long before you have visitors.
It makes sense that warp speed related technology would be the first step in making this kind of thing work... |

Constructable stargates will certainly be alliance-level construction projects, in the way that titans were when they first were released.
Is the full text of the interview available? I only found articles based on the interview. One of them implied player-built implants would be required to use the stargates, which IMO is the most interesting possible tidbit. Why can't I delete this signature? |

I don't know of a full text of the interview. All I have to go by is the link in my OP. |

Also, I'm wondering if the equipment and material mini-containers in exploration sites could hold some rare research materials? These containers don't seem to show their contents when they are scanned as you can get more carbon than you ever see, but what if they actually had hidden cargo that could be used. |

Was thinking how tey would apply player starbase , really dunno. Yours make sense , (nice biobreak that warp lol)
Maybe like lots ppl say , something with jove space , wich is super rich in materials?
anyway would be past 2015 is my geuss , so little patience is needed. The police horse is the only animal in the world that haz his male genitals on his back |

Everything they add will likely go to ghost sites. Why can't I delete this signature? |

So you are sure that we are limited to 3 dimensions? CCP Eterne: Silly player, ALL devs are evil. CCP Fozzie: When Veritas describes a programming challenge as "very hard" I tend to believe him.

I wouldn't be surprised too if we have to actually do something like reverse engineer t1 wreckage into manufacturing components. Or somehow get the components to make villard wheels. I'm anxiously awaiting to see the next data dump. Let's see if the perpetual motion machine's blueprint changes... |

Also, I'm looking at these station key passes again. Villard Wheels are apparently a salvagable component...? Did people ever salvage those things to see if they got those wheels? |

looks like you can only salvage wrecked villard wheels. it's kind of a funny parralel with the wrecked WIS ideas |
