Im wondering what HAC to go for. I have abut the same skills in amarr / gallente and im not sure which to go for. Itll be used in PvP and PvE. What are the advantages and disadvantagesof each, and which is better at what role. Thnx in advance. --------------------------

Id go with the zealot, no cap guns for npcing & its speed and range make it a hell of alot more able for pvp

I fly the Deimos and I'd have to say go for the Zealot if you're gonna PVE in it at all... I like the damage output and sheer no balls, no glory element to the Deimos for PVP, but the ship sucks at PVE... The ishtar is pretty good where that's concerned, but I see zealot pilots doing things that I simply wouldn't try PVE wise...

I would go for the Zealot. Honestly, it's about the same as the Deimos but it has more armour, a bit of freedom with your fitting and that extra low slot to work with, plus your weak resistances are a little more favourable. Not many armour tanks get high explosive resist before hardening.

Deimos is actually a mispelling of DIE-Mos', as in it dies the most often in pve.

It would really matter what you want to do with it as to zealot vs deimos. For PVP the zealot is still the best of the two (unless the deimos starts right on top of the zealot) for 1 vs 1 pvp until the deimos gets some love. That said, I am still a deimos pilot. I fly caldari and gallant hacs atm.
They are both great for gang pvp, but solo pvp the deimos needs some love. It will usually lose to another hac in a fight.
For NPCing the deimos can really shine depending on what you are fighting. Serpentis or Guristas it is an awesome ship, it being better for Serpentis than Guristas (not as much annoying jamming). The deimos does the damage type they are most susceptible to and tanks naturally the damage type they do making it a perfect match. Just slap on a t2 thermic hardener and you got two resists over 82% kin and therm. If you want a super stupid tank then add another kin hardener and drop one mag stab. The deimos just chews through serp npcs with great falloff and insane damage capabilities while still maintaining a good tank. With good skills it can dish out well over 600 damage per second which melts npcs fast!
If you run into cap issues try fitting a med cap battery in mids and a nos in highs. If you donĘt have the best fitting skills substitute electrons in for a few ions till it fits.
I cant vouch for how it does vs other types of rats but it works well against serps. Likewise you can work a good non blaster setup by going with 200 rails that does over 300 dps plus the drones. That setup is good for missions with tons of groups that you donĘt want to travel to as it hits from anywhere from 5km-30ish effectively with the falloff boost. Deimos is lacking for pvp but still comes up solid as a PVE money maker, especially ratting.

the deimos would be a great ship if it could actually fit it's guns properly

Agreed the deimos needs a boost to grid and a bit of cpu to make fitting it less of a nightmare. Likewise a bit of cap or recharge increase would be nice too. If not boost to that maybe cut down on the med blasters cap use.
But Deimos needs some love!!

It is a bit like the mini-megathron - suffers from fitting issues & cap usage issues, just like the thron...

And here I am discussing with a corpmate how the Deimos is only really good at killing rats and 1v1 PvP...
What is it, if I may ask, that Zealot pilots can do PvE wise that Deimos pilots can't?

Zealot speed > Deimos speed
Therefore all well fitted zealot own well fitted deimos.
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread |

In certain situations the Deimos is a great close-range brawler, but in the grand scheme of things I'd go for the Zealot. It can go for damage, range, tank or PvE. It's also more agile so quicker to come to support in a gang.

If you train gallente you will be able to fly 2 good hacs the deimos and the ishtar. If you train amarr you will only get 1 good hac from my point of view.. the sacrilige (sry spelling)isn't a very good hac if you compare with others. The zealot is a very flexible ship, you can go close range, long range, gank or tank(sometimes both tbh). The Deimos is a bit more limited, you can fit rails on it but it isn't very good with it. Deimos is a close range ship and the zealot can do both.
I hope you can chose what you want now if you can't train both Gotta get a sig :/ |

Edited by: dazedandconfused on 24/02/2006 11:21:27 I would say a Zealot, just because I use a Zealot and it kicks butt.
The Zealot gets nice range (with a tracking computer II I can get about 36km with pulse lasers using scorch crystals). The Deimos is up close and personal.
I am not quite sure which does the most damage, though I know for a fact that the Zealot does plenty.
The only issue with the Zealot in my opinion is that heavy Nos give it troubles. Granted I would think this would be a problem with the Deimos as well, but the Zealot is especially vulnerable to heavy Nos.
The Zealot's base speed is great.
With 0.0 ratting I have had no troubles with my Zealot, in fact it works exceedingly well. This is especially true when when one considers the fact that it doesn't need ammo, which is actually the main reason why I went amarr in the first place.
Ultimately it boils down to medium range combat vs an upclose brawlfest, go figure :).
Though, on a side note, I will soon have command ships 4, and with the Absolution soon to be fixed, I might just stick with that. Though I still love the ninja swiftness of the Zealot .
