Edited by: Montgomery Alph on 20/03/2006 22:24:58 Well I got my Capacitor Lag fixed thanks to Rohenus and Serendipity007. Rohenus first gave me the idea that the cause might be my AMD CPU that reminded me that it was also overclocked. Serendipity later commented on it which led me to set the CPU back to stock speeds. From that moment on no more Capacitor lag (Both with and without ClockMon), although before I had witnessed it very severely every single time I played.
Wierd thing is the CPU was rocksolid. I had stresstested it and the memory when I overclocked and it ran without stability- and heat-problems . Go figure. My only idea is that my AMD CPU might have a built in problem. Oh and the CPU was AMD Sempron 2500+ running at 2100Mhz (Stock 1750Mhz)
Anyways I suggest you add this fix to your original post.

I've been running ClockMon for a couiple of days and so far my cap display appears to be totally accurate. I run an Asus A7N8X-E motherboard which is Nforce 2. Previously I had the cap display bug and have lost ships to it.
Well done to the person who discovered this and thanks.

If none of the previous fixes work, try this one (see my post in this thread Linkage )
I did not do any of the above fixes, but this did solve my problem. It's worth a try!!!

I was able to resolve it by running ad aware to remove the spyware and bs that had built up on my system over the last 51 days since it last updated, and possibly I last did a scan
System: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Antec True Power 430w PSU Athlon 3200+ no overclock
Background: in the 2 years I've been playing eve I've ever used this same Asus MB and Antec PSU, and up until about 4 months ago never had this problem before, the last time I was able to resolve it by completly deleting and reinstalling EVE, prior to that I tried to no end to delete the cache directory with no success, I was unable to find any posts at that time regarding this issue(this thread started a month late for me, if for nothing else this reply will add a bump since theres no sticky)
however this time it did not work, I have 3 copies of eve on my system, and the time issue began again last night, and was happening on 2 of the 3 installations
I tried clearing the cache, no change, deleted and installed 1 clean, no change
Then I found this thread and check some things My FSB SS and AGP SS were disabled, my system has always sync'd to time.windows.com(WindowsXP), I then thought maybe the BIOS and Windows clock were out of sync due to the DST change, but before I installed the clock sync program I tried what someone else had suggested with scanning for spyware, and that worked for me
I know its long but this thread really would have helped in January when I wound up reinstalling, so as I said before if for nothing else heres a bump

Updated OP to include information about the memory leak bug. In my most current experiences, if the computer and/or EvE have been running for a long length of time (3+ hours), I have been experiencing the Capactior indicator lag problem. Rebooting the computer resolves the issue. ___________________________________________________ "I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker!" - Scotty, Star Trek: The Original Series |

ok, ive had this problem ever since getting this wonderful craptastic nforce 2 comp...ive installed the clock mon and i had a friend walk me through a better time sync program since internet time has not worked for me...the link for that program is http://www.oneguycoding.com/automachron/
however with everything done i still have the 99% cap showing, its affecting my shields (reading 70% and my armor taking hits), its affecting my training time showing correctly, ive had skills on imminenent completion for over 12 minutes, it affects my agression timer, and probably the worst, last night it affected the eve clock in game...was off by 11 minutes...
my requests for help from ccp have come up with "repackage all your ships"...ya, i laughed at that too....the rest of the reports have been unanswered, especially the latest where i lost a ship to this crap.
GIVE US A STICKY, AND A WORKAROUND/SOLUTION....THIS MAKES THE GAME UNPLAYABLE

Windows XP does have its OWN Internet Time updater no need to install any stuff ... and yes the software to do Timer update had been in windows long before.
for win XP: - Dblclk your time ( lower right corner) - InternetTime
by default Windowx XP is set to update Time only every 7 days but with InternetTime Update Delay you can setup that to thatever you want. --------------------------------------------------------- a Challenge System for Eve |

OK, so the problem was seemingly fixed for me for about 2 months after running spyware doctor and cleaning off my system. I got a BS the other day (FINALLY HAD THE SKILLS TO FIT IT DECENTLY) and have been ratting with an armor tank (Gallente Dominix). It worked awesome for the first day last night I almost lost it due to the....wait.....wait....the CAPACITOR BUG. I readjusted my setup before going out yesterday to give me better cap recharge so I was expecting to use less cap. Well I got in the middle of my 3rd set of rats in 0.0 and they were tearing into me. "No problem" I thought, because my cap was showing that I had 99% showing (wow that extra cap recharger was working great I thought) only to hear "YOUR CAPACITOR IS EMPTY." Thank God I had just gotten the overhand with the rats and they were going down quickly at that point.
Ok now for the useful info: I relogged and everything started working fine again. About 10 minutes later, I noticed that when I engaged the LAR, it was using as much cap as usual. 10 minutes later, it was using NO CAP. Anyway, I just happened to look at the Eve clock and noticed that it was ahead by about 2 minutes. So I logged and ran the adware program that found nothing. I relogged and the same thing happened again. So I relogged (running clockmon) and guess what, the same thing happened AGAIN. My question is this...why doesn't eve send automated updates top their own clock in game....I wonder if THAT would permantly resolve the problem? I did notice in numerous other cap thread that someone posted that the problem had autimatically "fixed" for them about the same time as mine. Is it possible that when the eve servers are having "lag problems" that it could possibly be causing SOME of us to have the CAP bug? I will try some more stuff tonight to see if I can fix it for me. I REALLY hope I don't have to relog every 15 minutes just to get a semi-accurate CAP reading...btw last night when it happened, the shield gave false readings also...God I hope that doesn't carry over to the armor readout...Could be deadly!!
STICKY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am also having this problem and so my shield and capacitor values are absolutely unreliable. So, I am not able to take any slightly risky fights at all since I don't know what is going on with my ship. SS is deactivated and Clockmon didn't help either.
Why does Eve calculate so much stuff client side anyway ? Would there be so much more traffic if cap/shield/hull/structure numbers are sent from the server ?

Ok..I just had a problem-free weekend of gaming. After my last post, the only 2 things that I did were: ran spyware doctor and found nothing, and did a cold reboot on my computer. I do believe if any of us intend on attention being put ot this matter, we need to run the log server and submit a bug report. I read in the developement thread that this is why nothing has been done to this point. So, my plea is that any of you out there with this problem, please follow the directions in this thread and lets find the reall problem instead of guessing.

This topic should be sticked please, it affects a lot of people and makes effective combat impossible. Fortunately some people remembered this thread and answered another thread I started describing the problem, but if they hadn't been kind enough to do that, or the topic had disappeared from the first page of threads too quickly, I would have been out of luck. So either a sticky, or a software change to the way the capacitor level is calculated. Of the two, seems like sticky is less work.
The solution for me was to disable fsb spread spectrum and agp spread spectrum, and I also disabled the network time synching in XP (don't know if that's necessary, but that's what I've done so far)...and after that, I had a nice fun evening blowing up NPCs and not getting blown up myself. I have an nforce 2 chipset motherboard, the spread spectrum option in BIOS is easy to change but people have to be aware of the fix in order to execute it.

I am having this issue as well. I had the cap bug over a week ago which resulted in my Merlin getting toasted. It didn't happen again immediately so I didn't think much of it. Since I moved from a lightly populated area of Gallente space to near Jita for better agents, this bug has become a serious issue. I'm having cap lag, shield lag, and skill training time lag. I can't prove it but it seems that moving to a higher population area with possibly more lag has excaberated the issue.
My rig Athlon 3000XP MSI Nforce2 mobo 1gb RAM 6600gt FSB and AGP spectrum both turned off by default

*BUMP*
Tonight I tried another mission and formed a gang to compare shield totals while letting a rat BC fire away on my ship. My shield readout was 98% while my gang readout was closer to 75%.
This is a serious problem to a player like myself who shield tanks. It seems like at first the damage is computed normally, but somehow the game simply stops factoring in some or all damage being done to the shield. Oddly enough, my cap was fine for the ordeal, reducing as I turned on modules, etc.

Finally!
I have had this problem on and off for bloody ages. I've petitioned it multiple times and had 'clear your cache' and 'sync your clock' neither of which has done anything. This bug has been destroying my game play for months as I've had to turn almost totally carebear as I was losing ships and taking armour/hull damage without warning. Level 4 missions had become totally unviable and I've had to duck out of aspects of corp wars.
I'll be trying out the advice in this thread as soon as I get home.
CCP - I gave up on petitioning this as your 'help' was anything but. Please sticky this post, or atleast start a managed thread of client side work arounds and bug fixes like with the ship setups thread.

Well, I recently upgraded my motherboard and processor to a nForce 4 SLI chipset, and I don't think I have encountered the capacitor lag issue yet. I will post here if it does rear its ugly head. ___________________________________________________ "I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker!" - Scotty, Star Trek: The Original Series |

One of the things that fixed it for me was turning off Dynamic Overclocking on my MSI motherboard. I never noticed any problems with it in games until EvE and DDO Online, EvE gave me the cap bug and DDO Online my character kept rubberbanding when I tried to walk. On gigabyte boards it's called C.I.A. CPU Intelligent Accelator. What these functions do simply said is alter your CPU clock dynamicly, what can cause problems in games that use non-proper timing mechanics somewhere in their code. (For an indepth explanation look MSI D.O.T. vs Gigabyte C.I.A, they also list an utility to check to see if your CPU clock stays the same.

I have finally found a work around for SOME aspects of the problem.
I suffer from the cap/shield display bug around 50% of the time. Clock mon etc does little to help.
However - I have figured out how to view an accurate measure of my own shields. Simply form a gang with someone you trust and view your own shields via the gang display. This doesn't show you cap unfortunately, but i know for a fact that my ship can support the cap drain of all modules being activated so this isn't so much of a problem.
This work around has finally made missions possible again for me!

I too was suffering from this problem, and not much of the above seemed to help. The following rather simple solution did, however: Make sure you have the most up to date motherboard and chipset drivers! This fixed the problem for me. I know its obvious, but I overlooked it for an embarrassingly long time and its possible that others have too. I hope this is helpful for some of you at least! JW

I run an Asus laptop and I've had this problem since spring. I have the shield/cap issue unfortunately and the gang window does tell an accurate picture.
