I have a few questions to CCP regarding their upcoming Chinese shard.
1. Will Chinese players have their own EVE-online website, with forums included?
2. If yes to 1, will CCP disclose account details or IP addresses to Chinese authorities if the request it based on something written on chinese EVE forums?
3. Will current EVE players in China be moved to the chinese shard? -- Director of Tribal Trust of Pator |

i dont really understand this chinese shard myself. i thought we would never shard eve? i guess the sheer amount of chinese people, constitutes a new shard if thousands decide to play. and the primary language will be different. hmm.

On your question 3,
i doubt that they will move chinese players from TQ over to serentity(i think thats the planned name), just seems logical to me.
chinese law could(and probably will) determine otherwise for anyone residing inside china ofc, but surely anyone can opt to make an account on that server (even mandarin savy westerners).

ya it was only for like a week straight, mostly about moving chinese macroers there, it would have been easy to miss sitting there on the first page.
anyway, the answer as to why there is going to be another server is because of chinese laws regulating how long a person can be online in a game each day, meaning CCP needs a new client and server to regulate that time. also china has laws restricting PVP. ---------------------------------------- If you ain't dyin, You Ain't tryin. |

If thats the case then eve will have problems over there, just wondering how much pvp's restricted but even if *slightly* eve cant really work.

Last I heard killing other players would be restricted to people over 18. This may have changed some, though. And we don't know how the government would take Eve, since ship loss doesn't equal death, only podding.

Let's not forget that China is still a communist government. They are completely afraid that all us 'capitalist pigs' will try to convert the 2+ billion inhabitants or that those same inhabitants will be giving out too much info. Basically, China has laws that govern several things that hinder CCPs gathering of funds from the enormous population in that country, so CCP is making an exception to the general rule of 'no shards'.
FWIK, Chinese citizens have extremely limited access to IPs outside of china (I think this is part of that 'time online' thing). I have heard that they are not allowed to connect to IPs outside of their country, but if that was the case, they never would have gotten ahold of the game. I think they are only allowed a certain amount of time to connect outside IPs or that this is going to be a new law enacted on the chinese new year?
But, here is what I'd like to know... Can those of us OUTSIDE china connect to that server and bug the living heck out of them, like they did to us (as rumors have it)? I'd also like to know just how a member of such a 'poverty stricken country' (as the press would say) can even AFFORD the game - I mean _I_ have a hard time making the payments on occasion...

Strongarm, I expect your post will be nerfed shortly as the mods don't like that kind of discussion, especially when it's riddled with errors and bias.

You can't gain anything form PvP meaning they can't drop any loot.

ehm yah possibly, i remain unconvinced tho...
because for most people playing this game, indeed eve's greatest strengh is the complex 0.0 politics created between feuding parties (which can only be achieved when you have 10k + people in one area). Take this away and 'good god' we have WOW in space... depressing

Unfortunately, communists like thought police. That is one of the defining properties of dictatorships. See here for example, on how things operate, and in the end how likely futile they are in the information age.

Actually Yes everything does revolve around PvP. The economy is built around PvP...building ships and equipment for those ships. Players buy ships and equipment when they lose them and more people lose ships due to PvP related combat then anything else in this game.
I can bet you my life savings if they pulled PvP out of EVE the in game economy would crash...there would be a drastic overload of suppy and a huge drop in damand.
I can say right now that out of all the ship losses I have 90% are due to PvP and I PvE alot, because I hate mining.
No damand then why mine, because the minerals won't be needed. No demand then why PvE because the moment you lose something good luck trying to find replacements without any supplyers, who quit building because no demand....see where I'm going with this. EVE was created and geared toward PvP and even the Devs have stated this over and over and over and over again.
Please educate yourself on what makes the game tick before making statements like yours. ------- Semper Fi Jonis Sinmaker

The new servers are being made to coincide with Chinese law. China is a communist country and think people spend to much time playing games, thus they are going to control the people and force companies to make special servers and clients so they can restrict this.
If I remember correctly games are limited to 3 hours a day. Pvp is limited to those 18 years and older, since they think killing other players causes people to become violent.

1. Yes. 2. Yes, they'll have to otherwise the site provider themselves WILL be prosecuted if a forum member utters anything considered 'harmful to the Communist Party or in disagreement with Chinese Communist Party Policies.' 3. No. __

I find China to be a disgusting country. For the sole reason posted above, talking against the communist party and you're in heap big trouble. Same as with the New Google China coming out.
For Instance you type in "Tiananmen Square Massacare" into Google Images and you'll see images of tanks rolling down the streets, dead bodies, the like. But with the New Google China you'll just get the official lines given by the communist government.

First of all, In Before The Lock
Second of all, Communism doesn't work. However, Corporate Police States do which is exactly what China is becoming. Look at all the iron-fisted consumerists and rudimentary free-markets growing in large cities like Beijing.
