it works ok, but a mega is probably the better option.
6 x 425 rails
2 sensor booster, 3 tracking mods
2 rcu II, 5 slots for damage / tracking mods.
Maybe spice it up with some long range sentry drones?

Why not use the Caldari sentry drones? With 2 high slots for drone mods, and 5 caldari sentry drones, you can do a whole lot of good damage. I would be interested in seeing some stats on DPS for this setup. I suppose i could do it, but to be honest, i dont really care :P

I didn't think sentry drones got that much range. I could easily be wrong though.

minmataar was has an optimal of 40 max of 55
caldari one is lognerb ut I don't use it

Omnidirectional tracking links are the key. With 4 of them and lvl4 of Drone Sharpshooting skill you get 124km optimal with wardens and 99km optimal with bouncers.
However, because you can't move while shooting, it's hardly sniping :)

you can move
as logn as your in drone range your drones can shoot
them hittign stuff because of the range form them is a diffrent matter
I've been in a vexor ith dronethat where 50 km away but I was at the gate
