Maintaining account security is something that all players should be concious of, whether it is an EVE account, online banking account, or any other type of internet-accessible account.
GM Zworm took a few minutes to Blog some tips about maintaining account security, tips that can be used for any internet-acessible account of any sort. He also shares some tips on what to do if account management or the buddy key systems are not working as intended.
Give it a read, there is some very good information inside.

As one of the players who have fought my way through the queue, I have a few suggestions:
1. Post the information a user needs to have to reactivate their account after an email address change somewhere on a part of the website that doesn't require a logon. In fact, post the information from this blog there, too. That way I would have known what information to send in right away rather than having to get an initial response back from a GM.
2. Collect a security question during account creation and let users use that question to verify account ownership rather than using the credit card number. While credit cards used to have these static numbers that never changed, this is largely not the case any more. My main problem regaining control of my account was due to my bank changing the card number because of a large credit card database compromise. And some credit card companies are beginning to give out essentially 'disposable' credit card numbers for use on the Internet that are only good once.
I'd offer some suggested questions, but I'd allow the user to essentially input both a question and an answer if they want to. So I could enter a security question like "Who's my smooshy pooshy snuggle-bear?" and the answer could be "GM Zworm".

The GMs email address is [email protected] and can be reached via the Ask A Question link as well.

In terms of security imo you really should implement the ability to lock the account to IPs, thus providing pretty good additional security.

Is there some way to see which characters are on an account you wish to reactivate? A friend of mine tried eve 2 times and now after getting bored of WOW he's intrested in starting 1 of his trial accounts again but can't remember which character he made on which account.
Is it possible in some way to see this character before activating the account?

The only way to find this out is to contact us so that we can verify the account ownership. When we have made sure that you are the owner of the account, we can give you this information give you access to the account.

This is a good Idea, I've seen it on account management pages for other online games. I'll consult the website guys and hopefully we can make this happen in the future.

Yes there is. If you log into your Account page, and go to Character Transfer, you can chose what character you wish to transfer from the pull down list. You will not be able to complete the transfer as the account is inactive but you can see the characters in the list.
Hope that helps.

Um... I use a 32 character, secure password just fine with the EvE client.

This is all good and well but i play from multiple locations so could prove troublesome for people that travel. _______________________

Thus the "ability" to lock for those who want to, not a must.

err.. i play from a mates place a fair bit. Locking the ip would be a very BAD idea. People just have to learn nto to let thier password known to someone they dont trust COMPLETELY.
