Hello, I was wondering if I'm doing this right. This fit easily completes L4 missions once @ maximum firing range. But I've found myself short on CPU and power grid needs a rig slot to fit everything. Is there anyway I can do this better?
[High slot] 8 x T2 425mm Railgun with Spike L (312 DPS) for long range and Javelin L (569 DPS) for short range.
[Medium] 2 x F-90 Positional sensor subroutines with targeting range scripts. 1 x Large micro jump drive 1 Cap recharger II 1 empty slot due to CPU limitations
[Low] 1 Tacking Enhancer II 3 Magnetic Field Stab II 1 Armor Thermic Hardener II 1 Armor Kinetic Hardener II 1 Shadow Serpentis Large Armor Repairer
[Rigs] Large Ancillary Current Router Large Processor Overclocking unit Large Auxillary nano pump
CPU 7.3/809.7
Power Grid 311.5/22137.5
My cap actually runs out when Im using the guns and sensor boosters. I hardly have to use the armor repairer, so should I go for a buffer tank rather than an active tank? |

Overall your skills seem a bit low. Faction magstabs and hardeners will free up some room for fitting. maxing out cpu management and weapon upgrades will help here too. Getting power grid management and advanced weapon upgrades up should let you drop the ancillary current router for something else. Alternatively you can try fitting implants.
I'd keep the active tank. A passive armor tank would probably work, but it is annoying to repair when you do need to.
with maxed out skills this is how I fit my vindicator. 0.5 cpu left and just over 50 powergrid. With AWU 4 and Hybrid Rigging 4 it will fit with a 3% pg implant. OMG!! Railgun vindi, now i am scarred for live. Look away Dominix! Seriously, my dominix has 650 dps up to 140km.... and 800 dps at 75km.... I did every level 4s but a few in it just bring a bit of tanking modules with a MDU in your ship....
Get a kronos... 1106 dps, up to over 60 km Jump 100 km towards your targets if they are over 60 km and now you are 40 km close... I should be able to get over 1000DPS easy with a rail Vindy, but really Maraudaers will be the kings of PvE once again, does all in one ship. Look into a Kronos if I was you, and work to get your skills up. |

god damn, stop putting railguns on a vindicator. Its unnatural and bad. If you want a railboat then fly an actual railboat. There are plenty of them.
acceptable rail boats:
Mega Navy Mega Hyperion Dominix Navy Issue Kronos Rokh
If your ship is not one of these then don't put large railguns on it. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

For PvE rails are bad on a boat with 37.5% to damage, and with the web anything that gets close web and drone them. Anything out your rails + tracking bonus should handle pretty easy IF you have your skills up. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it won't work. |

I am fairly certain the rail vindy will out perform any of those, except maybe the navy domi in some situations. I still don't think blasters are suitable for regular mission running. and most of the missions where they are I'd probably rather use an AC machariel. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

rails need all the damage they can get. and anyways nearly everything should be dead before it gets in web range. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

FFS, a rail Vindi isn't some kind of concordable crime. It's not the ship's primary niche thanks to fittings and lock range, but it's still a better rail boat than most rail boats.
Anyways, OP, looks like low skills are your problem. Get those gunnery support skills up, and Advanced Weapon Upgrades to 4 (and then 5 - it's a bit very important). |

I don't think blasters are suitable for mission running either. The conclusion being, the rail vindi is a capable mission runner, but you're squandering the ship by using it. My outrage is only half serious, but I do sincerely think that a navy mega is a more suited to the role and just as good at it, while being more versatile as well (although the vindi is uniquely feasible as a shield tank). Navy mega is also far friendlier to having lower SP due to the slot allocation. Also, your rail vindi fit is very good btw, but you can pull off a very similar fit on a navy mega. Both your vindi fit and this fit work with all V's.

Large Hybrid Burst Aerator II [empty rig slot] free 100 calibration for whatever [empty rig slot]
Warden II x5 (switch based on mission)
Identical tank, better drone control range, and with the t2 aerator on both ships, the navy mega has slightly higher dps with wardens out and slightly less without sentries (implants will improve the vindi's dps more making them pretty indistinguishable). The base HP is pretty comparable, the vindi is slightly faster and more agile, and has a slight scan res advantage with the sebo. If you do want more tank, this navy mega fit is using 4 damage mods plus a rig, so dropping something for more tank doesn't hurt its dps much as it would hurt the vindi's. IMO having the extra drone control range is quite useful and lets you make full use of the range of wardens and bouncers. I'd say the Kronos would be able to stay up with a rail Vindy pretty easy.
It would be nice if everything was dead before it got into web range, but that isn't always the case, so it's nice to have a web on the rail Vindy still to help the drones rock anything that get close.
A rail Vindy should do just fine for L4s though. |
