Is there any way a player can be showing offline (and is definitely showing as offline from several different sources and the "offline/online" bug has been fixed by deleting a character from your addressbook) but can still be actually online?
I won't go into the reasons behind this question but it is certainly one I'd like to see answered.

Only as an alt surely. Unless the buddylist still bugged in a more subtle way...

Yes. It's a bug  Seriously, it is. I get it at least twice a day and I've lost count of the number of times I've done trades with people that are "offline".
I'm not being funny Josh - it happens regularly to me.
Edit - and if one of the "different sources" is being unable to open a chat with the player then that is a bug too. It seems that a player can get tagged as offline and hence all chat requests fail. He/she can open chat windows with you, but you can't initiate the chat. It's undoubtably all the same bug I guess

I hate that bug. I also get the bug where a person will log on/off and make everyone in the buddy list show as on or off. I have to relog to fix it.

When the bug appears, change to windowed mode, or vice versa and it is fixed temporarily untill someone else parts/joins who might mess up the buddy list again.
Seriously I dont understand why CCP is not fixing this important bug, its been around for months, all possible reasons are open to speculation along with everythink else that CCP is fixing or not fixing.

I have spoken to people in local (and thus definitely online) who come up as 'offline or unreachable' when I try to convo them. It's rare, but it does happen.
