I am usually quite impressed with the performance increase in new TQ. I have particularly noted tremendous improvement in assets loading and in systems which were jammed by lag. I have not stuck in jumping even once which is a big plus. Thank you CCP for the smooth transition and generally fast gameplay :)
However, the market and "undocking" are as painful as before. It's as if nothing has changed in these 2 areas. Now, docking is almost instant which is very nice, but strangely, undocking takes longer than EQ2 zoning And I am still afraid to click on the market
Any word on if this is known and something is being done about this?

I wish most interface items (people and places, corp hangar, mail , reprocessing etc.) would be put in a new thread. It is a little frustrating for the client to freeze up, particularly if you reprocess 100+ seperate items in one time, its got better since the new cluster, but it still takes a good minute or two to unfreeze :( ___

"Any word on if this is known and something is being done about this?"
If i understand it right, the market performance depends mostly on data access speed. And this is determined by the "ram-something" thingie CCP is using... since there's plans to buy and install more of these things in near future, the market performance should improve as well.
No idea about undocking, but it might be result of bugs, which has been mentioned elesewhere and are supposedly being tracked down as we speak ^^;;

There is no way that simply buying faster hardware is going to improve these things to the extent that the players want. The client software has to be changed to a threaded model, simple as that. Threads won't help undocking, but it would help the Market and other windows.
Actually threads aren't the only way to do it but they are the easiest way.

Threads have nothing to do with it--slow market loading times are due to the server taking time to send the information to the client.
I would guess the current bottleneck in the servers is the proxy layer.

Well if this is a whining thread, I may as well whine. What still hasn't gone, in fact has gotten worse, has been the bug whereby you can't select the gate when you are right beside it, you can't jump (unless you hit autopilot or go through the time-consuming right click menu)

I get that sometimes too, but its not limited to just gates, stations acceleration gates etc... It looks like the object boundery dissapers so no matter where you click the client still thinks you've clicked empty space.

Edited by: Dexter Rast on 26/02/2006 16:54:25 caldari gates being 100 a/u across, when close to a caldari gate when you r/click in open space you nearly always get the gate options and not your general system menu, thus not being able to warp anywhere else unless you zoom all the way out and click on open space that way
also buddy list still borked, reds and greens all over ---------------------------------------------

Bookmark copying.. easy to solve to be honest. Dont allow BM's to be stored in cargo. Sorted. :)
As for the market, its an issue apparantly with people's cache. The new patch to change the ip also cleared your caches... it means that your having to recache every market item. Until you have done so (i.e. use the market a little bit more :)) then your going to get delays.
Undocking... seems longer somehow, not sure why.. but it certainly seems like its not the servers struggling so much now, but more the "database" side of things, entering space and undocking takes a little longer. ----- Memorable Quotes <Jarltan Dimtras> OH MY GOD MY GF IS A DUDE |

The market, along with other database machines, havent been updated. Also, you'll notice that node transfers (going from a station to the outside, jumping) is also still sluggish.
The recent devblog has mentioned that this is the next thing to be looked at.
In other news, 220 peeps in a 00 system and the lag was very tolerable. Wish the memory leak was squashed though. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever |

That's how i see it. I'm by far no expert but the overal server performance right now seems very good. As is the database performance. What is still somewhat slow is client <=> server interface.
I understand CCP were also upgrading this. Perhaps this upgrade has not yet been completed and will come at a later time (stealth upgrade?!).... |

I HATE that bug. I've lost many a ship to it trying to run gate camps.

ok ok ok, and if we are whining about gates, add: caldari stargates not beeing able to get any menu but the gate/jump menu, instead of bookmarks, no matter where you right click, have to zoom out 5 AU before it comes up
ok done. __________________ hmm Dark Shikari is right !!!

While we're at it, it's so annoying that I can't use my bookmarks when I jump in because when I click on empty space, it selects something for me to warp to. And when I insta-warp to a station and I click on the station, I go right through it and click on the other station to dock causing me to warp to that station. So annoying.

The thing about not being able to click on stargates has, indeed, gotten worse. I've taken to traveling with stargates on my overview all the time, since you can click on the gate on the overview even if you can't click on it in space. -Wrayeth

They become damned annoying in PvP, however, when you're trying to lock your targets and don't want to accidentally lock and fire at the gate.
