I wanted to know what seems to be the best path to starting a miner toon.
I see three ways - 1) go for the mining skills at first 2) go for the astrogeology skill 3) go for the piloting (frigates & command)
I plan on going for high int and memory (and do learning skills to help with all stats)
Also trying to figure out which bloodline would be best. amarr looks good, for the high cpu on thier ships (laser weapons)

Edited by: Alanix on 26/02/2006 14:03:47 Astro requires Mining4, so I'd start with mining.

You'll also need decent perception and willpower for training the Covetor--just go for balanced stats.
You'll probably want to get frigate 4 at start rather than mining 4, so you can get a cruiser.

I am leaning towards sticking with the frigates till i can get a mining barge.
Training industrials and mining ships. But there are a couple others that might be nice to have so balanced stats looks like a good bet.
but can't really decide on the bloodline to pick. simply because looking at the various ships doesn't really help (since the barges are ore not racial)

odd, is there a path for all factions to get frigates 4 and command 3?
Just did a couple toons on test to look at the new bloodlines... the minmatar one got frig 4 and SC 3 right off the bat...

You could get the cruiser skill aswell, the osprey is a fine ship for mining. ----

I might pick up cruisers, not sure yet.
Main thing at first will be doing some learning skills while stripping belts in 1.0 to 0.8 space till I can get the basics at least started.
Basic skills I want to get besides the learning at first (all but charsima for now)
Anchoring 1 Electronics 2+ - electronics upgrades 1+ - Survey 1+ (maybe) Engineering 2+ - energy management 1+ - energy systems operation 1+ Industry 1+ - mining 1+ - refining 1+ Mechanic 1+ - hull upgrades 1+ (cargo expanders) Science 1+ Spaceship command 3+ - racial frigate 4+ - racial industrial 2+

Is this miner going to be your main or your alt? I have a miner character but it's my alt so I don't really play him much, so for the most part training time isn't a factor since I just set it to train then come back whenever it's done.
What I did though is start out with mining and also a little combat. I trained up my memory and intelligence learning skills, leaving the others for later since most of the skills you'll need for mining related tasks are based off Intelligence and Memory anyway.
I sort of skipped around in my training but basically I'm just training to the point that lets me use certain things. Right now I'm already able to use mining barges and am currently training astrogeology to 4, once that's done I'll be able to use the tier 2 barge. After that I'll work on training up refining and advanced refining.
But far as what to start with out of creation, depends a little bit on if this is gonna be your main or alt. If it's an alt, you don't really need frigate 4 tos tart so you can get to cruisers faster as someone suggested since you won't really be playing him actively. Like I haven't even trained cruisers yet on my miner as I really plan on using the barges, so I skipped cruisers and just went right to training barge related skills. Now if you plan on having this guy as a main then having cruisers open is a bit more plausible since you'll also need them for other things.
