Here's one for Minmatar -STORM
I like shrike for Caldari. "Shrikes are also known as "butcher birds" because of their habit of keeping a "larder" of corpses. " ---------

Originally by: Gray Carmicheal The Caldari have ships named mostly after birds of prey/fear, or predatory animals in general. Caracal, Osprey, Falcon, etc etc etc. So where did the Ferox fit into that? Never heard of that as an animal name, maybe I just need to go back to Bio Lab.
Ferox is simply latin for "fierce". It's a name for a lot of species subclasses.

There was a play a while back who was very popular with his corp / alliance and some of the forum hogs. He passed away and it was suggested that a ship be named after him.
His EVE name was RAMPAGE...
Sounds like a great name for a new ship

For the Amarr, I like a reference to the Eschaton or possibly Fueros.
Somebody said Rapture and that sounds nice too. Might be confused with Raptor on TS.
Gnosis strikes a chord as well. Alternately, you could remind one of the Phaedo, which would be fitting.

Caldari: every ship is named after SOME animal. mostly birds.
Amarr: Punisher, Executioner, Crucifier, Maller, Omen, Apocalypse. Is it not completley obvious?
Minmatar: This seems to be based on weather or natural forces of the earth.
Gallente: I cant figure out this one, seems to be completley random.
so my suggestions are:
Calradi: why not falcon.. or is that taken? otherwise im out of ideas
Amarr: At first I thought of shredder, but that should be a cruiser or frigate. Then i thought of Annailation. If thats not already taken. or Ragnarock.
Minmatar: Tide (as long as theres no lawsuit from the detergent). Or mabye Tsunami. Not exactly wind but i cant think of any wind things. it still starts with a T.
Gallente: Quantiphon. It just popped into my head and fits with the other random names of Gallente ships

Edited by: Grash Freedom on 27/02/2006 08:07:08 I am suprized by silth, you did a very good job
Amarr: "Armageddon", "Apocalypse", ====> "Chastisement", "Chaos", "Judgement" day. any of the last 3 are good imo
Caldari: "Scorpion" for earth, "raven" for air, something that has to do with water must be a good name "Octapus" maybe? or BlackGhost it's an electric fish in RL but it doesn't sound smart.
Gallente: "Atlas" or "Atlantas"(very nice one) Although "Eunoia" is a nice name for a gallente ship, another one is "Ponos", pain in greek, or even "Phobos" fear, it has some deeper meaning as well :)
Minmatar: "Hurricane" must be the one or "Musson". i prefer the first one

Amarr: Judgement, Dominion (heh, go alliance!), Cataclysm Caldari: Peregrine, Cobra, Viper Minmatar: Zephyr, Hurricane Gallente: Excelsior, Krakken
Judgement and Cataclysm are taken.
Peregrine, Corbra and Viper, let's make it birds shall we? ;D
Krakken sounds finnish
Point well taken on the Cataclysm and Judgement, though I doubt I'll ever see the latter
As for the Cobra and Viper, the Scorpion kinda killed the naming scheme didn't it?
Krakken = giant sea monster if I recall correctly

Edited by: Silvitni on 27/02/2006 09:26:42 Amarr: Annihilation Jugdementor (already mentioned :/ ) Dōm (pronounced "doom") is the Anglo-Saxon word meaning "judgement", "law"
Minmatar: Ska=i (Old norse, word means damage. Is a Giant in the Norse mythology) Jarnsaxa (In Norse mythology, Jßrnsaxa is a giantess. According to Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, she was Thor's lover. By him she was the mother of Magni. According to the Hyndlulj==, Jßrnsaxa is the name of one of the mothers of Heimdallr. The name Jßrnsaxa means "iron knife")
Caldari: Mollymawk (Albatross) Caracara (Caracaras are birds of prey in the family Falconidae. They are principally birds of South and Central America, just reaching the southern USA)
Gallente: Erinyes (In Greek mythology the Erinyes or Eumenides, the Romans called them the Furies - were female personifications of vengeance) Hyperion

CCP have been reserving Phobos (the brother of Deimos, deimos means fear, phobos means terror) for something; I'm guessing that the tier 3 BS might be it.
Phobos is also one of the moons of Mars, and a tier 3 will be the size of a small moon, so...

Or the Bateleur, a serpent eagle.

But perhaps 'tornado'? Don't think theres a ship named like that in game is there?

For the Tier 3 Battleships?
Minmatar By Keeping minmatar not with the storm theme, but the Norse or Scandinavian mythology. It Makes the Names a little Cooler. And a more interesting theme to the game or where these names came from, Other names from Norse inculded, Naglfar,Huginn,Ragnarok
1) Hringhorni Hringhorni was the name of the Norse god Baldr's ship, the largest ever built. He, his wife Nanna, his prized horse, and the dwarf Litr were burnt upon it after Baldr was killed by H÷=r, via Loki's trickery.
2) Skidbladnir Link
Amarr All the Amarr Ships names seem to go all over the place. From Roman to the "end of the world theme" with battleships. Or in other terms alot of phrases from the bible, or are some for of reglioius belief. I would have to agree with 'Gierling's quick post
1) Rapture (Not to be confused with Raptor) The belief that true believers in Christ will be taken bodily into heaven just prior to or during the Tribulation period, and thus be spared the horrible fate awaiting those left behind on earth. The rapture is an integral part of the premillennial dispensationalist systems which have dominated Christian prophecy belief in the second half of the 20th century, as it proposes faith in Christ as the only route to salvation.
2) Tribulation A period of upheaval, usually seven years in length, during which Satan will exert control over the earth through the antichrist. All but a small remnant of Christian faithful -- perhaps numbering 144,000 -- will die as a result of wars, plagues, and famine. The Tribulation will end with Christ's defeat of the antichrist at Armageddon, ushering God's millennial kingdom on earth.
Theres my suggestions for amarr and minmatar

The Scorpion came from Guristas, hence the snake-name. So it makes sense.
There are a few other anomalies in the Caldari naming scheme (caracal, charon, cerberus), but I think CCP made a typo with one of them: The badger was supposed to be "budgie". ------

Little known and completely useless fact, when we're discussing names..... The word Caldari is used by Pashtuns from the Pashtun valley area (south-eastern Afghanistan and north western Pakistan) as a term for Pakistani money.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure that's not how CCP came up with that name...
