About the 10 second + lag, no matter what you do, when you get lagged in a roidbelt, dun't log out. There's a reason for the lag, usually people or NPC rats in the belt
Sorry you lost your maller :(

The most lag I've been getting recently, is from concord/local police. 8-10 seconds a throw. At the Carrou gate in faurent, I have never seen less than 10 'enforcers' floating around.
It's a bit over the top, especially when, even if there are none there, and you commit a hostile act, they will warp in within a couple of seconds anyway, with no invul, no mag field pause, etc.
So why have that many there in the first place?
It isn't currently, and I doubt will ever be, a hotspot for piracy, so I see no need for such an overzealous display of force. 2-3 would be perfectly adequate. In the unlikely event of someone causing trouble, the others will be there in plenty of time to totally ream the 'target' anyway.
I was zezzing some rats last night, and although I littered the belt with over a hundred cans, the lag was only about 2-3 seconds. Far, far less than you get with a handful of coppers. .

I have a new batch of warp anti freeze available to buy at the meagre price of 1 million per can or 3 for 2million. The come as a basic cargo container, but fit them to your ship and all your worries are over. I am based in agil and would be happy to help.
You want it I got it....erm unless I sold it, then some one else has it!?! :/

It's a crappy work around but since the game laggs so bad and can be very unstable at times I rarely carry anything on me I can't easily replace.

If it's the same one I once had, it's a tiny little window with a bandwidth up/down monitor. useful if your downloads are shaky, and to see if any data is going across at all. .

Edited by: Winterblink on 04/09/2003 13:17:15 You know, I remember a time during beta where warping to asteroids was as smooth as warping to bases... no freezes to load the roids, only a VERY brief pause to get the ships. Then a patch came and that changed on me. Like you could actually see the roid belt coming at you as you decelerate, like you do with bases, real slick.

The cops seem to be lagging me more than pirates.
I was happily jumping along, I'd come up to gates with lotsa gate pirates and cans around them, no real big lag.
Then this one gate I hit was like, BAM tons of screen lag and loading! I was wondering what the heck was at the gate to cause that.
Turns out it must've been the 6 cops!

62 jumps is about 4-5 hours in a battle ship with out MWD or afterburners.

Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 04/09/2003 13:54:25 I don't mind that a Scorpion has a top speed of 150 but does it really have to take 800 million years to reach top speed?
C'mon, it has 6 frickin' thrusters!
Had a scary moment in Yulai due to "something" - I was warping to a station to catch a RUS-dude docking but as I approached my screen just went all over the place. Amazingly huge light effects, I could see the sun, everything was stuttering all over the place and I had to ctrl-alt-del to get out of it.
Logged back on and I couldn't see anything but I could hear a lot of bangs.
Rebooted and everything was normal.
No idea what it was.

The past week has been the worst I've ever seen for consistent (yet unpredictable) lag since I joined about 10 days after release. I've started doing the following:
1. Sticking to carebear space. Sorry, but I don't want to travel through space where a gate camper can smash my ship before I even come out of warp, and at times I am waiting a minute before I actually see the gate. I don't usuall stick to wuss space, but ATM the lag favours the camper, especially if they're using drones or if any cans are "coincidentally" lying about.
2. Not rat farming. At least not challenging rats. I'll sometimes mine in a 0.5, but those puppies can't take out my ship in 3 minutes, so I don't worry. I want to get back to 0.0 rat hunting, but I need to be able to trust the game again before I do that.
3. Warping into any area where there is the off-chance of PC or NPC violence, I'm activating my mid-slot shield items just before I hit the 100 KM mark. That way I'm as protected "defensively" as much as possible in the event of a lag-fest at the end of warp.
The one thing I noted about your loadout comments was that you lost a MWD while NPC farming in a cruiser. With lag issues ATM, the next time you're out in a Maller I'd substitue 2 ABs for the MWD. You can still run (slower mind you) from rats if yer scrambled, and you've got a LOT more shields to play with. In a non-lagged game a skilled player will often use a MWD whilst rat farming. ATM with the unpredictable lag I think it's a bad idea.
As for the game not freezing or crashing in weeks, I've noticed that too, there are less CTDs, but I gotta say it's not good tradeoff. I can recover from a CTD pretty fast most of the time, and if I crash in a "warp to desktop", at least I relog back into the game safely in the centre of the starsystem, rather than in the middle of the target asteroid field having given the rats minutes to stomp me.
