I really should know the answer to this one after nearly 3 years of playing but it's a situation I just haven't come across before:
I'm at a gate in empire, 0.4 sec system and there's a guy with a -10.0 sec rating, flashing red on scanner and a large bounty on his head. I know I can destroy his ship without the sentries firing on me but can I pod him and collect the bounty or will I get ganked by the sentry guns?
What about when the bad guy is flying through 0.5 and above in a pod? Can I shoot?
What's the rules please?

Honestly don't know. Pod him and run from sentries in 0.4 tho ;). In 0.5+ I really don't know when you can pod them. 'Course, I spend 95% of my time in 0.0, so it's never been an issue for me.

You can pod anyone under -5 anywhere.

you can open fire at any person that has a -10 security status anywhere without sentrys interfering.
you can pod them also without sentrys interfering.
beware though as shooting at him will allow him to shoot at you without sentrys protecting you and pirates are often very good at shooting ppl.
