I would go for pre-built as I'd just end up with a crap model with blobs of gue around it. Never was any good with those fiddly model things.

if they did airfix style models, you could do the basic hull models with all the relevant acessories to turn your punisher into a retri or whatever.

I'd definately go for that, a helios or a raven would be so sweet... preferably 1:1 but i'd settle for smaller i guess... lego sets would be nice too, hehe (cos im a kid at heart) __________________________________________________ Tiridus D'Furte

Originally by: kieron The Marketing department did look into 'Do-It-Yourself' models and determined that the initial production expenses, like modeling the ship, breaking down into component parts, creating the injection dies, etc., are cost-prohibitive compared to the projected sales (estimated at roughly 500 units/hull).
If your friend thinks this can be done on a worthwhile scale, have him contact me ([email protected]). I'll look over the information and forward it to the Marketing team.
1) Projected sales = everyone in Eve?... cause I couldn't count in a year the amount of people that want to buy these... if, and I'm not sure if I'm correct in this, by 500 units/hull you mean you've only projected sales of 500 units per each ship type then slim down the number of ships you can buy AND also realize that more than 2000 people will want to buy these models. Most will probably want to at least buy a battelship for each race. That brings a sales estimate of 4 units/subsriber. Now say that half of the customers only want 1... split the difference and say 2 to 3 units/person. With a subscriber total, not including those that just think the ships look cool, of over 100,000... that's anywhere between 200,000 to over 300,000 units sold. To go with the highest (estimated) and lowest (estimated) you can sell anywhere from 100,000 to over 400,000 (and that's if you only sold 4 models). And, with the demand I've seen for these, you'd be hard-pressed to find an Eve subscriber that won't at least buy one.
2) as for the cost... just raise the price. Sounds greedy... and cold-hearted... but people (esspecially those who really, really want the damn things) will understand.
You're only problem would be if you chose to introduce a model that is already built and doesn't require hours of getting high on airplane glue. I would see a one-piece/die-cast model selling much for frequently than a do-it-yourselfer, BUT... either option, when left on it's own, would sell tremendiously(sp?).
I'd say go for it. I haven't met a single person that doesn't want a Megathron, a Raven, and a Geddon watching them play Eve. I even, though I can't understand why, know people that want Minmitar models. I know I would buy all four races... just cause I have four walls in my computer room. --- --- --- ---

Originally by: Josiah Markum I think models are a good idea. Along the same lines I would love to see a "Technical Readout" manual of the Eve ships in the same flavor of the ones that were put out by the Star Trek folks. Not so much for gaming purposes, just a nice book to look through. You could also have ones for weps, etc.
I have the OFFICIAL Technical Manuals for the Enterprise NCC-1701 and the Enterprise NCC-1701D, and they both rock very hard. Something like that for, say, a Ferox, would be insanely cool.
I think I still have technical prints of the Original Battlestar Galactica series. I recall looking over those things for hours when I was younger. The Viper and Cylon Raider are the best!!

I want pewter or resin miniatures. I'm actually running a pen-and-paper (HERO system) RPG based loosely on EVE.
I'd buy a few kestrels/manticores, a few merlins/hawks/harpies, a few incursus/ishkur, a few punishers and variants, a few executioners, rifters, tristans, some condors, some griffins, some blackbirds (lots of blackbirds), thorax...
I'd buy a LOT of miniatures.

releasing 1 piece battleships wuld rock, if they was on a stoand and the overall size was about 5" cubic it wud kick ass. summat just big enuff to see detail but small enuff to display on a shelf/cabinet. i wud love to have a raven and tempest sitting ontop my speakers while playing,
could do them in sets like the McFarlane movie maniacs. and could have a special edition larger version of faction ships like Navy Raven, Nightmare ect.
i'd quite happily pay about ú30 for a diecast 5" cubic model delivered

I would prefer finished models to kits however. |

Edited by: Demangel on 03/03/2006 00:28:53 Pewter miniatures (or plastic) for Table top Gaming 4TW!
I know I'd buy a set of those for sure, as well as to scale models (I like to build my own though, but I'd be happy with a prebuilt if thats all there was, it would HAVE to have interchangeable guns though)!
I remember when armored core came out with thier nifty little doll/model/action figures. I purchased two of em without even thinking twice about em. If CCP made models of ships, and had turret hardpoints you could snap interchangeable weapons into, I would be there with bells on. And from my room my wife and kid would here me going "PEW PEW PEW BOOOM!" through the door for hours on end when I can't be on the PC.
Either way the demand is present, even if all CCP does is make "official" versions of the paper models smiffa proposed (and is working on), IE complete with some bells and whistles so you don't feel wierd paying 20+ bucks for a couple of sheets of paper your about to mutilate into a sticky ball of glue and wood pulp.
They could be made from the highest quality paper/posterboard, possibly pre-scored, and partialy precut, complete with a poster of the ship, a card with vital stats, the model makers who worked on it (Yes I think they deserve credit in spades), and some official seal that doubles as a stand for your desk (ship should be removeable from it's stand for those like me who will make the PEW PEW PEW sounds, or the more normal folks who will hang em from the ceiling or something).
Demand exists CCP, all you gotta do is find a way to make it affordable, paper or plastic, I don't care, DO IT! and I will buy as many as I can afford.
P.S hasn't anyone here ever seen spaceballs? the real money isn't in the movie... It's in the MERCHANDIZING! Heck even SOE has a dumb giant boobed playboy bunny looking elf wizard statue... They even stuck a model in one of the collectors sets, and I know folks just tossed those away... CCP is WAY better than SOE! Comeone! lets see the merchandize!

I'd buy small premade/painted models, preferably plastic as that's lighter and much cheaper. Tech II Frigates would be sweet.

Just because you couldn't get a ship to do what you wanted doesn't mean it's a crap ship - it means you're a crap pilot of that ship.

Not-to-scale metal diecast would be cheap and good. Quality can vary at CCP own will. From very very low to almost 3d rendering, especially on the paint scheme as the form, with new 3d prototyping techniques, can be directly extruded/molded/laser-etched from 3d studio and the likes. Some ships would really deserve a stand on my desk (who said Thorax?) ![Very Happy](/images/icon_biggrin.gif)

I am definately going to have to express interest here. I'd prefer die cast models but, as long as they're detailed and accurate I don't mind.
Someone mentioned earlier about making a tabletop game. I'm not dure whether I'm this or not, but I would love a nicely bound copy of the eve online ruleset. Not translated into a tabletop playable format, but for the online game (I am aware that balancing issues in the future will mean that the online rules are constantly changing slightly but whatever).
Also, thankyou to KIAEddZ for reminding me of that vaguely laid out fleet battle ruleset that I was working on a few years ago. /me goes off to find his notebooks...
