So i'm looking to put together a Kestrel that I can use to "defend myself" in low(er)sec. One that is perfectly capable of fighting back (or engaging) against baddies who want my electronic ass.
I also own a cormorant, so a setup for that would be nice too. So, if you guys could give me the lowdown on what gear i'd need to outfit the both of them it'd be pretty awesome.

Probably alot of set ups in the ships and modules forum. Would think 4 rocket launchers, an AB and web would be a good place to start.

Well, would I want to go with an AB or an MWD? I imagine i'd want to close the distance between me and the other guy as fast as possible. Or is the MWD just toofast? I've never used one...yet I own one and have the skills needed...I can't play currently

MWDs suck too much cap, especially on a Kestrel.
I'd use an AB, but that's me.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 27/02/2006 20:14:21 The ultimate anti-interceptor kestrel is as follows.
4x rockets (best you can get, all named are very cheap except for arbalest) 1x scrambler, 2x web 1x 400mm plate, 1x MAPC
This will shred most interceptors without any real skill if used properly. Against larger ships, maybe swap the plate for a smaller one and use an AB.
The one disadvantage of this setup is that it is obviously vulnerable to an inty orbiting out of web range. However, it is cheap to replace, and most enemies will orbit close assuming that it is just a weak ordinary kestrel.

A quick question: Does the 10% dmg/level to kinetic missiles per level of frigates apply to rockets as well as missiles? If not, does the dps of rockets really keep up of that of light missiles?

Yes, the bonus applies to rockets. DPS is far higher with rockets. |

If you are playing defense, no you don't. Play surprise, let the other guy close the distance (even 'running away like a little kessie girl' at first! )
The double webber setup above is nice; if you want faster, an AB is your module.

On the other hand, who is expecting a kessie to be anything else but a missile boat ? It can't fit miners and it's slower than a probe for cargo runs. I don't see much potential for a surprise here.

People don't expect it to have double webs, a plate, and four rockets, which is instant death for an inty. The only interceptor I know that can consistently beat it is the Taranis. And maybe the crow.

I think u oversaid it here. U wont beat every inty !!.True this is good setup especially if u have ur missile skills up and u can use t2 rockets. But dont forget a)if the inty is plated u will be dead for sure b)many inty's can shoot u outside 10k and can warp in to scrab u when u are allready way inside ur armor a crow for instance with good skills can fire rockets up to 15k away c)the inty can web u too and maybe can warp out in time(maybe) But still i bet u can kill some inty's with this setup for sure But only if they are not plated
p.s im not sure that u can fit a 400plate and be fully equiped as u write here also have u tried scrab and 2webs all at the same time on a kessie not sure it will last long
