It had a cut scene to a scan tower that you see in missions and stuff and I got to thinking.
It'd be cool if there was a POS structure that could act as a remote scanning post that people with sufficient rights, and proper high skills of course :), could remotely view who is in the system that the structure is built in...
Of course the structure would have to be very expensive and even require high skills in areas such as: Electronics, Survey, and maybe even Hacking :)

Or, use covert ops ships?
Neat idea, but just seems a bit of a duplication of an existing thing.

It'd need somthing like a 12/24 hour start up time. While it sounds extreme it means it can help prevent people simply leaving it offline all the time and only onlining it when hostiles appear. Having a huge startup time would mean the users would have to balance having to pay the running costs of such a facility against the defensive benefits of one.

Its not really regular practive to leave a covert ops ship using char in every system you hold a pos in 24/7 is it?

It provides a home field advantage to those willing to invest resources in it. It's nothing like a covert ops ship, whose job it appears to be to spit probes into space for an hour, curse that they don't work and watch the enemy warp as soon as a 3AU probe appears on their scanner.

Aye I've suggested before that POSes should have a structure similar to the giant Radio Telescope you see in dead space missions. The thing would be expensive and use a good chunk of the POSes resources but it'd allow sensor information within a few light years. By accessing the structure you can get a warp in point on any ship within the system in seconds. You'd also be able to see who or what are in the systems within its reach. This option might even be implemented in the map through a new filter like 'Intelligence Information'
