I have read a lot of criticism of Destroyers. I'm interested in opinions as to how they can be most effectively utilized. I fly an Amarri with 8 light LASERs(mixed variety, mixed crystals) tuned to about 9500 meters optimum range. My medium is used for upgrading capacitance, and my low for upgrading armor. My corpmate Rebekka Ammund uses a Caldari for mining...she is able to get either 5 or 6 XeCl drilling beams on with a CPU II in the low and lost of engineering/industrial skills. It provides nearly the output of a small mining barge, but with 2 slots for weapons. Another corpmate, Giselle Languedeux uses a Gallente, but it's not easy to set it up for anything effective. Any ideas? Big Bruddah, a Minmatar, uses the Min Destroyer. It's difficult to set that one up also. We like to fly in formation out to the various 'deadspace' locations and fight. It's tons of fun watching 48 weapons going off all at once! We really would like to get some GOOD ideas on how we might tune each of these ships for more effective combat however. The one limiting factor is we tend to stay with our racial ships/weapons/support modules. Not that we can't mix it up, but our skills are all highest in our racial-set.

For NPC, this is what I use on my thrasher and it works great:
7 x 150mm AC II 1 x small nos or 1 x rocket launcher (usually use nos)
1 x named or tech II AB 1 x webber 1 x cap booster
1 x 400mm tungsten plate 1 x small armor repairer II
It hold up quite well and damage is solid. Just be careful about engaging a spawn that's 40km or so away as they tendn to barrage you since you have an increased sig radius.
Later today, I'm going to test a few setups against inty's. I'm not looking to overwhelm them, but in a fleet engagement, if you can get in close, I believe a desty can do a solid amount of damage. The setup I am looking at is something like this.
7 x 150mm AC I 1 x rocket launcher
1 x MWD I 2 x stasis webifier I
1 x 400mm steel plate I 1 x small armor repairer I
The reason for tech I is to keep costs down in case of lost. Double web should hopefully hold the target down. Now the big problem is the increased sig radius, but when tackling an inty or another frig, it's not too big of a problem. Anyways, it's all theory.

Hi, Keep in your racial set.
Destroyers 1 weakness is they tank WORSE then frigates due to size. cruiser guns hit them easily and for full damage, i just cant get a good destroyer setup

Cukogra, thank you for the setup advice. I'll pass it along and we'll give it a try. Benglada, I think you're being honest with the "keep in your race"...not being facetious. I agree with you. The Destroyer seems to be most effective when you don't try to mix racial weapons-systems, etc. Keep the advice coming! I for one plan to maximize my DD as much as possible...I'm too cheap to upgrade!! heh heh.

I would be very intrested in a good combat npc setup for the catalyst (although i would like to be able to escape pirate attacks)
so far for npc hunting and missions im running
7 x 125mm scout rails with either all 8 firing antimatter or uranium
1 x power diagnotic system 1 x reactor control 1 x overdrive injector = flys at about 314m/s (its so boaring)
1 x sheild med extender = 1277hp 1 x saturation sheild booster
i would like to hit so much harder im only hit for about 35 when accompaning my friends on lvl 2 and 3 missions where as my incurus with 150mm scouts was hitting for 78-105 that ship got boaring.
i really like the destroyer idea of the class and the ship designs but they really gimped the ships themselfs (a bit like the pally in WoW )
any help in making an new setup out of maybe blasters or AC or am i better of with rails for this ship.
i have: gunnery 4 small hybrid 4 sharp shooter 4 motion prediction 3

before i get flamed 
when i helped out on the lvl2 and lvl3 missions i was'nt taking aggro i was just orbitting my mates in battle ships fending of fast movers as they were set up for long range.
i just want to do it in the dessie as i can target up to 7 at a time, the only problem is im only just doing half the damage i was in the frig

destroyers are actually a very nice anti cepter tool.
a while back nearly everyone and his mother used crows and other cepters. i would use a low SP alt in a destroyer to go around the hubs knowing that i would get attacked by cepters. must of killed 15 cepters before this perticular alliance educated its members :P
but now it seems that more and more people are useing crusiers, which ofcourse means the destroyers role is almost gone. personally i think their sig is roo high, they are closer to cruseirs in sig but should be closer to frigs for what they can do.
average destroyer should be 55m not 90m

Destroyers are fun ships. I used to have a Catalyst that I bougth just because I like the ship. It was fitted with a full rack of 125mms, an AB and a web and dmaage mods in low slots. Pretty fun to fly and I actually killed an interceptor with it once (Sure, it was a Raptor, but it's still a ceptor). They don't have thta much uses tho, other than being fun to fly tho. I hear that in fleet battles they make great ship for killing frigs because they have lots of guns and 50% range bonus. For soloing they'r paper thin armour and big sig hurts them.

This is my opinion on destroyers:
Destroyers are 100% useless for PvE. Buy a cruiser.
Destroyers exist for gang PvP and you need a lot of SP.
Their speed, armor, sig radius is such that tanking them is *impossible*.
They need +tracking, +sensor resolution and +damage modules. Anything else is cross purpose.

Also, use them in sniper setups (beams, rails, artillery). T2 Gear is a must... thus the high skill requirement to use these things effectivly. ____________________________________________ Don't worry aboutit |

Destroyers rock at all skill levels. my drone skills kinda suck atm so i use my alt in a AC Thrasher to clean up those pesky angel vipers and webifiers around my Raven/Ferox

NPCing Coercer: 8* Dual light pulse AB SAR, EANM, CPR, Plate (biggest your skills fit)
I did lvl 2's in sucha setup before grading up to cruisers.
PvP wise, a destroyer usualyl can drive off an inty (not destroy it, as inty's are fast to warp, but deny it the tackling zone.
