I have a question regarding secure can mining; When you have mined your ore and stuffed it into your anchored secure container, you bring in your hauler to pick it up. Do you then scoop the entire container into the cargo hold OR do you empty the contents of the container into your hauler's cargo ?
In the first case I would imagine that you could haul more ore because the containers take up less space than the ore they contain(magic containers ?) but then again I guess it would be a hassle to have to bring your hauler back out to the roids again to setup and re-anchor the containers ?!
How do you actually go about solo can-mining to be most efficient ?
Thanks in advance

Have as many cans as your hauler can carry, and also have that many cans where you are mining. So if your hauler can carry 3 giant cans, have 3 giant cans. Once the 3 giant cans are full, transfer the contents of each one to one of the cans in your haulers cargo. |

Ok, so you have cans in both your cargo hold AND anchored in space ? And also, am I correct that you can carry more ore if you stuff it into secure containers and then into your cargo hold than if you just put it directly into the cargo hold ?

you can have cans in your hold. Since giants take up 3,000 and hold 3,900 they are a popular way of extending hauling capacity...except for organic cargos like passengers and food, which cannot be placed in containers.
Shifting the mins from anchored can to can in hold is better for what you are talking about because it takes time and fuss to anchor then unanchor a can to scoop it, then you would have to take it back out and anchor it again...too much fuss.

I do not even bother with the secure cans. This is due to the fact that they only hold 3900m3 of the ore. Even with a starting miner this should not take long at all to fill up. Then you would have to switch cans and start loading up another on, rinse and repeat.
You then have to get the hauler, load them to the cans in your cargo and haul.
Even when I first started mining, other that the first couple of weeks, I have put the ore I mine into a standard jet can. These cans hold 27km3 of space, but are only good for about 1.5-2hrs of time.
I would fill the can, then go get my hauler and transfer the ore back to a station. If you are in high sec space and are just starting out on the mining this would be the best way to mine the ores.
Besides I hate jumping into an ore field and seeing 50+ secure cans just floating around.
Also once your mining ability starts to increase with skill, ships, mining lasers, you will find that filling the secure cans you have laying around in space will be done with one or two cycles of your miners on the barge.
Good luck with the mining carrier.
