A combination of Blood & The Power of 2:2006 has tempted me to get a second account however I really cannot bare the thought of all that skill training again - even though I can easily fund an ALT (+4 Implants & skills etc ..) and would highly specialise ..
Now although I imagine many are tempted by this offer, and perhaps slightly more so if Asian (although I'm not really convinced by this line of thought) in the end isn't all we're getting just a new set of pretty Avatars
Wouldn't it have been better to have also boosted these characters starting attributes, career path bonuses, initial skills or the number of points available with which to customise
I cannot think who would be unhappy about this, well perhaps a selfish & jealous few, and surely IMO this would generate a much greater interest, particularly in those that already have old accounts (^2:2006), and incentive to part with more of their hard earned money ..
*Note: Personally I would also be happy to lay out a higher initial sum for a new account/main character if I also gained 'X' amount of additional SPs. This idea I imagine will be unpopular with many but an additional ú10 (ie: months subscription) per 1,000,000 SPs to apportion (upto a limit of say 10,000,000 SPs) however the player sees fit would be a fantastic new level of customisation and a generous meet-halfway offer to players who miss or are used to 'grinding' *

you know, not everyone has the disposable cash to have multiple accounts.
now saying that, do you think its fair to create a 2 tier system?
if you do, your an idiot, plain and simple.
Giving unfair advantages just because you have enough money to get them is a death nell for most online games, and if you cant see this, well, you must be a sad person. Other games have tried it, and after the first initial sucess people see it for what it was, and its dropped.
-I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.-

perhaps if you could 'recycle' a character for a small fee, but lost the original character and 20% (or whatever) of their SP...

Big no no for buying anything in-game with real life cash, seriously don't want to see eve start heading down that route - time cards are more than enough already.
Also, if you give the new bloodlines a significant boost in various areas over the old then surely that's all people will roll? Leaving the old bloodlines in need of an upgrade, which then would require all the currently existing characters attributes to be switched around etc.

How about make corpses a commodity this way? Say I nuke someone's pod. Collect the resulting corpse and wheee, turn it in for a bit of SP. :) The older the character the more SPs given. If the person dies without a clone, the corpse would yield a bonus amount.
This would of course apply to new corpses, since there's a decent number of folks with hangars that look more like morgues.

"How about make corpses a commodity this way? Say I nuke someone's pod. Collect the resulting corpse and wheee, turn it in for a bit of SP. :)"
* create character on secondary account * park the main outside station where the alt's clone is located * undock the alt, pod them with your main for extra SP. rinse, repeat.

Amount of SP is relative to the SP on the corpse's owner. 90k SP = 90SP (or not worth the trouble..), while the "uber" 40m+ ones are 40k SP, which is noticeable.
Interesting concept. :) - selling corpses would be more lucrative this way, i'd guess.

You can create characters with more than 100 k skillpoints right off the bat. Not worth trouble? You might think so, but some people will find it worth the trouble, just like they did find it worthwile to grind extra SP with the "gain a tiny bit extra each time you fit a module" mechanics that were in game earlier... and once you have some people taking advantage of it, all the whining about unfair advantage and ebil macroers starts. :/

I could see them starting all new characters from Blood on with basic learnings to 3, just to give them a bit of a headstart, but of a way to catch up to older players.
But giving too much to new players kindas cheapens the new player experience. Everyone so far has started at the same point, why shoul others gain a benefit no one else had to being with?

for the same reason those who have been ingame since day 1 retail say no whenever new players ask to start with extra sp to even it up as much as your idea really does appeal to me its gonna have to be a resounding no.
at least us vets can now prove that starting out afresh with one of the new bloodline chars can still have players enjoying the game starting from scratch

I'll be starting over from scratch and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. The difference this time is I know what to train and what to get to train up faster.
My knowledge getting started is far greater then the SPs I am going to have. _________________________ Siggy by Esturary |

It was just an impatient thought ..
Oh and for those that have rehashed the same old 'money in RL shouldn't be allowed to give you an advantage' explain to me why secondary accounts don't fall into this category

Because it has nothing to do with money. If you have to control 2 chars and spend 2x time working them as opposed to if you only have 1 char, then dont you deserve whatever benefit it gives you? You spent the time IN GAME to build your second chars wallet and skills and haul stuff or scout or pvp or whatever it is you have him do, so why wouldent you benefit from it?
Its not like just because your main account has a char on it with 30 million sp, your second acount you buy also has a char with 30 million sp. Far from it, you have to start with nothing (isk or sp) and build him like like any other character.
Has nothing to do with the fact that outside of the game, the player actually pays 30 a month instead of 15.
Think if in a family there is Bob, the father, and Mary, the mother, and their 5 children.
OMG UNFAIR JUST CUZ BOB IS A LAWYER AND HAS A LOT OF MONEY IRL HIM AND HIS 2 CHILDREN WHO LIKE EVE GET TO PLAY SIDE BY SIDE FROM THE SAME ROOM OMG NOT FAIR, AND ONE OF THE CHILDREN EVEN HAS 2 ACCOUNTS HE USES SINCE HE MOWS HIS GRANDMAWS LAWN EVERY WEEK!!
Shut up.

Don't try and pretend that having an ALT is hard work. And you certainly don't spend twice as much time playing the game because of them as the whole point is that they're used at the same time whether passively or actively.
The main char funds the ALT who is the brought into active play for example when:
- in solo combat (PvE or PvP) where you want to take advantage of gang bonuses
- pirating/jumping haulers in safe space and even though being killed by CONCORD the ALT can safely collect the loot
Passive uses include:
- Sitting in the 'Research Tech II BPO lottery'
- Watching different Regional markets/escrows
There are many more ..
All these advantages, if you admit the truth, are merely gained by spending twice as much money as a single account holding solo layer.

Edited by: Adjodlo on 02/03/2006 00:39:48 I think the OP is making a misguided attempt at suggesting that the new bloodlines are nothing but a pretty new picture with nothing special behind it.
Agreed. Not sure what he is on about with the buying skill points thing, he mustve fallen and hit his head a few times while he was writing the post.
The fact is that everything in this game is subject to whining. This means that should anything ever become slightly better than it's counterpart, it will quickly be beaten back in line with the nerf bat.
The point is that in EVE, everything is the same, everything is equal, everything is balanced, and if not, it's simply whined back into place. The only thing that is different are the pictures and/or the names. This might not be the case right now, but we're sure headed there.
How do we solve this problem? I propose a simple and brutally effective soloution: When someone whines about something in the game ie. nerf nosferatu or "lurnin skillz shud b removd cuz i didnt train them and i have 20 mil sp now!!1one" or "new bloodlines are unfair because I didnt have the option to make one 2 years ago when I started my first character" or if anyone even mentions warp core stabilizers and other such whiney nonsense that really benefits noone, they should be issued a warning. Three warnings and they are banned from posting on the forums. If they are caught whining ingame after this their account will be banned.
Problem solved.

I think the 10m SP cap is somewhat high, your original idea stems from the fact you don't want to grind through those learning skills.. in which case 5m SP would get the job done aswell.

Always one to stir the pot, huh MOO? To be honest, there has been discussion on making 'advanced characters' available, but the discussion generally ends with a statement close to, "This is a bad idea, it'll p1ss off the community, and we'll look like a bunch of money grubbers."

You could simply address alot of these issues by allowing more then one character on an account to skill train.
They could then charge the extra 10 to turn on this service per extra character.
So you could have viable alts. But the limit of course would be that only one character could be logged in at a time.
As it is now with only being able to train one character at a time. Keeps some aspects of eve out of reach of newer people and keeps some people to only one path in the game due to skills they want for what they are doing.
Now of course you would have people running alts this way. But they would have to pay a little extra up front that would help CCP some.
The only real issue I could see with this would be spying. Having one character in one corp and one in another unfriendly corp. This would push corps to make members invite the alts to the corp to keep people from spying.

I don't know about you, but I figure most battlefields occur in 0.0. And when people try to stop something very profitable like getting new implants, they would probably join the corpses they're trying to loot in a more permanent fashion.

In a game community where the vast majority of players tend to be the 'cream' of the nerd crop, anything with a chance of being misused cannot be put in. Everyone who I know, personally, who plays this is an engineerng student of some sort. Give us any kind of mechanic that involves tedium for a tiny bit of extra reward and we will damn well do it. Hell, if I didn't like tedium on some fundamental level, I wouldn't play this game.

You really have to wonder about some people. Calls the new bloodlines a "missed opportunity" before they are even released, and instead he comes up with this horrible idea of real-life cash for in-game advantages.
Whining coupled with a general lack of vision. Always a very annoying combination.
