The slow training is boring tbh, but at the same time at the end of it there is a small sense of accomplishment that just isnt found in lvling up or gaining a new skill in other mmo's now adays and for that i'll continue to take my long training queue's over anything else |

Long training times yes, but...
this is one of the only MMOs where you can legally buy your own 5-10 year veteran (ie. jump right to level 100)
Sorta pay to win if you will.
Pro tip - get two monitors, find another game like League of Legends, Mine craft, or World of Tanks that you can play during the 90% of time that EvE is a bore. Also, find a Corp that you can hang with in TeamSpeak and play LoL, WoT with etc. |

I've been gaming a long, long time and on top of that I'm a new player here at Eve Online.
What I find refreshing here and I've seen references in the forums here is the fact someone new simply just can't pick up the game and in 1 day start owning everyone in the game. I've played the crap out of FPS's and MMO's and there is nothing more detesting than having a beginner, level one, or other, start the game and kick the crap out of your seasoned character, no matter your level.
It is refreshing... here... the hierarchy of ships and weapons and that hierarchy is maintained. There is no shotgun sniper rifle, or a pistol that hits harder than a 50 caliber sniper rifle... this is great!!!
I do hope as I train up and eventually join the ranks of the higher players that this concept remains in tact. While everyone else is nerfing weapons to be equal, to the degree that it makes no sense, I hope it remains a fact here that not all weapons and ships are not equal. Simple rules of power do exist, you don't take a pee shooter to a machine gun fight, unless of course you are playing battlefield 2-3-4 or the Call of Duty games.
The only complaint I do have are the training times, there is no reason to bore a new player to death. I'm sure this concept has ran many of players off. So I would ask for a reconsideration in this area and making the sensible move to more acceptable training times. ( In case any Dev's read this)
Thanks again!
They did... training was worse. We had these things called learning skills which when trained would increase your base attributes. There was 4-5 months worth of training those before anyone would serious consider training anything. One day CCP realized it was stupid and did away with it. The other thing CCP did and it was the best "fix" ever was the skill queue....
Back in the days when real men flew internet spaceships we didn't have a training queue at all.... so you trained a skill and then you hoped you were at a computer to start a new one or goto the next level... hence all these programs you see online called skill training planners... |

By "good" I mean decent people. I really don't want to hear a lot of cussing, see a lot of drama, or be a part of an organization that has less than a 5 star rating. I know, I'm a bit picky but I've been a part of those groups and really don't care for them. Try Eve University. It's a fairly structured (for Eve) learning environment without a lot of cussing or drama (mostly). It's also a good way to see a bunch of different career paths and figure out which you like best.
As for being a pirate hunter, I would suggest growing into that. You certainly can, but you will find that there are many different types of pirate in Eve, and most of them are very skilled at solo PVP. With a little game time under your belt, you'll figure out who's who and who you want to go white knighting against. Banish plump Jack, and banish all the world. |

You'd be surprised how many of us started out that way and ended up saying "screw it, why not?"
Eve is a game which primarily rewards intelligence. Whether its being able to manipulate the market; blow the crap out of the latest FoTM fleet fit or whatever, the intelligent people get the rewards quicker than in most (all?) other MMOs.
Makes it interesting and keeps it interesting in cycles as alliances rise and fall.

The training times are much shorter than they used to be, we used to have these things called learning skills, which were pretty much essential for quicker skill training, and could eat up around 50 days of training time to get to a reasonable level at the 2x training bonus newbies used to get. Welcome to Eve, we have a few "rules"
- Don't fly anything you can't afford to lose or don't feel comfortable losing, everything explodes eventually
 - If it sounds too good to be true, it's a scam, if it doesn't sound too good to be true, you simply haven't figured out what the scam is yet.
- Bigger is not better, don't rush towards your first battlecruiser or battleship, spend time in frigates, destroyers and cruisers until you know the ropes, and have decent support skills trained.
- Never pay a "security deposit" to join a corporation, you'll never see the money, or membership.
o7 fly safe, or not.
Excellent introductory post about the game. I plan on quoting you in the future.
Welcome to the game OP! Now go out and shoot someone!
My biggest piece of advice is to remember that it doesn't matter what your skills are. If you are bored in eve its not because you can't do something its because your aren't putting the effort in to do it. I hate to disagree with you,-ábut there is nothing subjective about "boring" in connection to "mining". -á-á-á-á -- Solstice Project's Alt |

Welcome to EvE!
On your stance of believing in the good of people, and bringing that to EvE. I can testify it is a good approach. Trust is a very powerful commodity in EvE and can get great benefits, as long as you are true to the trust people put in you. A note of warnong: don't be naieve, EvE can be very brutal at times.
That said, a nice rule to live by to make eve more interetsing is this *Trust people with what you can afford to loose* That way you can meet some unexpected friends simply because you trusted them (yes sometimes it will just turn out to be a dud, but then you also know that you can't trust that person in the future).
Also a note, if you go to lowsec and get shot, don't take it personal, can be it's someone defending his corp's system/claim, so not neceserily a pirate. When yo'ure safe, you can have a talk with people like this, several of them are actually very friendly and are willing to give tips to newer players entering lowsec Over 17.000 New Arrivals at the Aurora Arcology! I don't know. I'm pretty sure I am the final product of what the EVE progression does to a player.
I mean ask the Titan pilots. That's all they basically do in the end.

There is a lot of anti pirate corporations out there, so you should be able to find one fairly easily. If you read over this guide you will get some pointers on where to look, what to look for, and what to avoid.
Good luck
Oh and as someone already mentioned but want to repeat. They have already made the training times a lot kinder on new players (removal of learning skills being the biggest one in my opinion), and there is already ships a new player should not be able to fly that takes..what..2 weeks to fly? Orcas and similar.
Basically new players rush into big ships to fast, loose them due to lack of support skills and knowledge about the game, rage quits. As others also have mentioned (many times) SP is really..overrated. A new player in a t1 frig can do some serious damage to an older player under the right circumstances

Training the basic skills is already quite fast, no need to speed it up even farther. Don't despair if it looks mindbogglingly complicated at first, with the right planning and some thinking, in two to three months you can be able to shoot most players in the face and win. But as in life, there is no guarantee....

It only bores a new player to death if he has the wrogn metality.
There is a lot of fun in smaller ships. In fact most of the fun thigns are in smaller ships. Also this protects you from gettign buthurt and abandoning game after you lost a battleship on your 3rd week in game. You should reach more expensive ships only when you have minimal understanding of what you can or cannot do.
Within 1 month you can be useful oN PVP SP wise, but you will need several more months to have the mentality to have success on PVP. Of course, 50 M SP helps to be able to select a broader range of ships, but I must tell you, from someoen with 130M sp. Most of my fun in eve was when i Had under 10 M SP

I'm sure it's probably been covered (didn't read the thread) but I just wanted to point out to you that skill points are not the be all end all of EVE.
A vet with over a hundred million skill points still only uses those that are applicable to the ship/mods he is using at the time.
Meaning if you as a new player dedicate your points towards a specific ship/mod you will have the exact same applicable skill points as a veteran player.
You can only fly one ship at a time :)
