so again I'm like 5 days in. I came into the game during this wave of new players. But been in MMO's for 11 years. Is this normal to EvE. The way this server went down and is restarting??

No it's not a normal occurrence, daily downtimes normally come and go without problems, but every so often, something can go wrong with patches, fixes etc..

The server experienced an abnormal fault which has meant taking it down to get it fixed. They'll be working away as fast as they can to bring it back. There is a daily down time that is usually very short but this is not part of that.
It will be back when the hampsters are happy again.
(It was a node death that cause instability across the rest of the nodes) |

It happens mostly after a new expansion or a large patch, mainly expansions. This isn't common though. |
