No he didn't.
Omber is available in Caldari and Gallente space in systems of 0.7 security and lower, though its often mined out.
Kernite is available in Amarr space in 0.7 and below, and is worth just as much. Due to the sprawling, less busy nature of Amarr space, you are more likely to find good ore there. ------------------ The ISS Navy is recruiting.

Wrong. There is no Omber in Caldari high sec--only Minmatar and Gallente.

Aye, TONS of Omber in Gallante high sec. Can't say for .6 space, but .5 is loaded. Just try to find a good dead-end system (please stay away from mine though ) and check the belts. Usually around tues/thurs you can find a good bit of omber. _______________

Edited by: Corunna ElMan on 03/03/2006 13:41:21 You can also sometimes get Omber in mission zones, regardless of nationality.

Might as well spell it out... :)
This is a well-known one: in Human Cattle 5/5, after the second gate, theres is a huge Omber asteroid that you can mine. It contains 90K units of Omber, which is worth around 6M on the market, or thereabouts (depending if you refine, faction standing, etc.)
Pre-Blood, you could mine it repeatedly if you did not complete the mission. That's 6M every day for 7 days. Of course, your Caldari and Amarr standings would get hit badly, since the bogeys respawn every day...
Post-Blood, Cattle 5/5 is considered completed when you pass the second gate (where the asteroid is), so you can only do it once per mission.
Oh, and it is very mind-numbing. The fact that it's deadspace means you cannot insta to the roid, you have to chug through 2 gates, a total or perhaps 75-100 km. In a hauler, that's a looong time.

The solution to that annoyance is to mine the asteroid, bookmark your jetcan, go back to your station and complete the mission and then go back to collect your ore. Completing the mission would make the omber asteroid disappear but your jetcans will still be there without the inconvenience of dealing with the acceleration gates.

Another good mission for getting Omber (esp. for Caldari who normally have to go to <.5 space for isogen) is the first part of Technological Secrets. One 50k Omber roid shows up right next to where the baddies spawn. If you beat the mission fast enough you can mine that rock dry (with modest mining cruiser skills) in time to still get the mission bonus, and only worry about minor rat spawn and no competition from other miners. Nets you about 3 mill in isogen. Evil Overlord Rule #20 Despite its proven stress-relieving effect, I will not indulge in maniacal laughter. |

I just mined 12k of Isogen in a 0.6 sec system...
Best way to find it is to add Omber to your interface settings and leave it on everywhere you go...

If you wanted to wait for the roid to respawn the next day, you had to use the gates...
Of course, now this is moot with the patch changes, and a good way of doing it without the drugery.

I hit the omber jackpot tonight. Downing The slavers part 2 had not one, but eight omber roids, 50k units each. That's about 25M isk worth of isogen, with no one else to take it.
