I've been out in a venture on my alt (T2 gas, ore frigate 5) and did gas mining in some worholes, but since i can't survive the rats I only mine for those first 30 minutes which is usually enough to strip or almost strip one cloud, but I can't seem to beat mining glare crust in lowsec in a stabbed skiff. Assuming I'm just selling the gas versus selling the refined Ice with no refining skills. Is it better to turn the gas into the components for T3s and then sell them, or do I just need a bigger ship and some support? |

don't just harvest all gas. Just the more valuable one and it will become more profitable than Ice mining. If it's worth the effort to scan one wormhole after another compared to a static ice system ... errrh I don't think so.
but if you mine gas, then just check the market (it's not so many Fullerite Gas types) and do the calculation for ISK / m3. |

if it's low level gas then C50, C28, or C32 will make you decent isk per hour. 20-40 mil. In some of the C5's just doing the High end gas before the sleepers spawn....some have made 50 mil in 20 mins. |

If you live in C1 to C4 wormhole where all the scrubs live you would probably make more isk selling your body in Hek... But once you get to that 3 digit gas, you'll be making it rain every night. +1 |

Our "day crew" with 3 characters nets himself about 200m +/- in the time it takes for the sleepers to spawn. And that's from C5/6 CORE gas sites. |

Best value per m3 for fullerides are:
- C-320
- C-540
- C-50
- C-32
- C-28
C320 and 540 are only available in class 6. C32 and 28 are only available in C4 and up. C-50 is available everywhere. C-50 is found in "Barren" and "Sizeable" clouds. Barrens spawn everywhere. Sizeable are a little harder to find. Barrens have 3000m3 of C-50, while Sizeables only have 1500m3.
So if you're day-tripping into w-space for gases, look for Barrens. Free Ripley Weaver! |

Awesome. Think its worth setting up a PoS in a C1 for C-50 fullerides, assuming I'm just using a venture, or would i be better off just mining ice/finding and going into a wormhole and coming out with the gas i mine in 30mins-1 hour? |

The challenge is that getting to the really high-class stuff, you need access to C5 & C6 space. Most of those are only available through null; hisec is a rare connection, and if they have a hisec the chances are very good you'll get popped mining. The additional problem is that if you set up a POS in a system with a C5 or C6 static, you're very likely to get evicted if you're a small operation.
Historically, a small-time gas-mining operation would use an Orca for long-term storage between hisec runs and some Ventures. Using the three characters available on one account, you can do all kinds of interesting things with such a setup. It's easier if you have two accounts.
I think the Mobile Depot has some promise for ninja w-space operations, but I haven't tried it yet.
Have fun! The Venture is how I got started in W-space. Made back the cost of my frigate on my first run, and when I realized I could make over 20M ISK/hour (that was HUGE as a newbie), I was hooked. |

Probably just a typo but they are also in Class 5s.

Get Mining Frig 5, Gas Harvesting 5, a 3% gas implant and your 18 minutes in a core gas site can be very profitable. |

t2 gas harvesters almost double your rate on a venture, and it's like 5 d of training, defo worth it
you have four options:
- set up an orca and a miner, you can do it on one account, theoretically, better to do it on two accounts, get a cloak and a probe launcher on the orca, just in case, and day-trip. this is the most expensive option - find a c2 with a static 5 and null or a static... 6 and null, forgot if those exist, set up a small tower, fill it with stront and fuel and mine the c5/6 semi expensive, considering the price of fuel can get more expensive than an orca in the long term - day trip into c5 space, you can find some in empire, lowsec and nullsec, best way is to do it in w-space itself - join an established corporation that has access to such space, in which case you will not need to risk as much yourself, on top of that they will usually clean the sites so you can mine it all up as well
Remember to mine the expensive gases, don't do the c1-3 gases, as they tend to give lower ISK/h than hisec mining in a retriever, as you have to scan them down and perhaps run from spawns. Having multiple ventures helps.
Also, if you are 150km+ away from the sleepers, they will not aggress. Sleepers spawn within a 2km radius around the signature, that is, the centre of the site where you warp in at 0. You can mine gas in some sites on the outer edge of a cloud, and the sleepers will leave you alone. Just turn on your scanner overlay an keep 153 or so km away from the spawn while staying on the cloud. Make sure to bookmark that spot.
Alternatively, you can probably lure the sleepers away from the center of the site with a mwd frigate, and then go mine while they slowboat back to their spawn. This one I have not yet tested, though, so it might not work. |
