Now how bout adding one so we can play the freaking game! I for one would much rather spend 10 seconds in game switching servers than 45 mins to an hour waiting to access my character who is in a busy area in the game! 2 mins to move an item to my cargo hold from the item bay, lock up trying to undock, 3 mins to open a window or panel! come on! give up the freaking 1 super server image and let us play the game!

I agree, the lag is unbearable.
30 minutes to log in, 1-2 minutes for guns to activate when you hit the button, 5 minutes to open a cargo container, another 2 minutes to move the cargo to your hold. Docking and undocking is a 20-30 minute process. A new cluster would be real nice right about now... |

I fully agree - this game is UNPLAYABLE and no way near joy to play.... It's actually the worst gaming experience (regarding on lag) what i ever had - and believe me - I'm around a while and played many other MMO - regarding on the lag and downtimes... EvE is the worst. That's very very sad, since the gameplay itself is great and prolly the best i ever experienced, but this game is no way near fun... I get ****ed off mostly everday because of this lag, and i think games should make fun and not ****ing you off... maybe time to call it quits... sad

I agree with Corp Mule.
Having one server is a great thing. It allows very easy trading, helping, and for some people, killing. I think they just need to get this server working without all the bugs that show up after a patch day.

They just did add some new servers, there's a news item about the upgraded cluster.
If you think that "sharding" Eve (like EQ or WoW) will help, then you really need to go away and learn about the architecture of how these games are hosted.

ROFL play star wars galaxies then youll see bad!!! but I think one server is best and that they should fix all bugs before creating new ones. And then also if all people that keep whining would leave making it less laggy for me, NOW that would be GREAT! Im a noob, bear with me :P |

Well, this was a patch, so it was intented as a bug fix, not as CCP likes to call an "expansion". And, I came from SWG when they brought out the NGE. Since you've played it yourself, you should know better than to hope everyone quits. It would look like SWG, empty, and wouldn't be much fun. If you want to play a single player game, try Homeworld.

I find it funny how there are always "groupies" that tell everyone to "chill" and "stop whining", etc. Seriously...are you getting some kickbacks and if so, how do I get on the program?
We're all paying customers and we have a RIGHT to complain when services don't live up to par. Yes, I know this is software, etc. but we have the right to receive services for the money that we cough up every month. Yes, I am also very much aware that I have the right to cancel my subscription but that's not going to FIX THINGS.
I think CCP should bite the bullet and give everyone at least one full free month once things are back in working order. This would be a good way of telling the PAYING customers "Thanks for sticking it out with us.".
Nough said.

One full free month would be a massive loss to them, that will NEVER happen. Its just gona be a complete mess until the weekend is over and they have the manpower to do a proper fix.... we just gota be good little paying customers and hope that the excellent service we usually get will resume shortly

Is there currently a faulty product: Yes Do you have the right to complain about the faulty product: Yes Does CCP know about the problem and is working to fix it: Yes Have they said as much: Yes Will 10,000 people all complaining get the product fixed faster: No (just ask Microsoft)
The point is that while you can complain about known problems, you should do so enough to make your voice heard and leave it at that. A simple 'The game is buggy right now and I am not happy' is fine. Finding creative ways to get around profanity filters and such methods really don't add anything to your post and hence why you tend to get labeled a whiner. Threatening to cancel your subscription has no effect either. You either will or you won't, and unless many people start to do so they won't really change how they operate. Think of the numbers being dealt with. If there are over 100,000 subscribers, do you really think one, 5, or even 50 cancellations over a bug really matters to their business?
As for my addition to this whole complaint thread, it irks me that they could have a memory leak on the main server but not have had it on the test server. Though, if it were a case of the test server not running the new hardware and the patch being developed before the new hardware, then I can see where there may be a problem.

I'm not so sure the memory leak is just in the main server. Normally, when I shut down the game on my system, it immediately closes to desk top. After I installed the patch, when I logged off yesterday because the lag was becoming unbearable, it took over 5 mins for the game to close to desktop, with a lot of HD thrashing. I'm no tech-head, but if XP had to create that big a swap file (I have 1 Gig of ram), the patch may have created a memory leak on individual systems. Another good hint was the longer I played the game, the longer it took to shut it down. Please correct me if I'm way off base here.

As much as people would like to think that two computer systems (or servers) are the exact same thing because they have the exact same hardware, nothing could be further from the truth. Back in Computer Technology class in High School (and when I was working as a programmer for a small software company right after graduation) one thing always remained true with anything we made: At least one computer would have a problem with what we would be trying to do. Sometimes the problems were extremely easy and could take two seconds of just extra tweaking to fix. Other times we'd have to spend a month talking to our clients trying to pinpoint the problem, or have to send over a few techies to see if they could manually fix the problem.
I know it irks you, and possibly others, that "Two systems that are identical should act the same", but it's not the case half the time, simply because computers respond differently to programs and such. Kind of like having ten metal pipes made that are all the same size, but one of the pipes was made with some faulty materials and isn't as good as the others, even though the label says it's the same as the others. Hope I'm making sense. =P
Also, to stay on topic: I'm not really having the memory leak problem. The only time I seem to "experience horrible lag" is when I'm 100% idle for ten to fifteen minutes at a time.

Edited by: Jack Testes on 04/03/2006 22:22:20 It would appear I was correct, (damn, that doesn't happen too often, just ask my wife), CCP are now working on a client-side patch to fix a memory leak the first patch incurred, as well as the server problem.

this is the worst i have seen eve in two years its not on ccp , you seem to only care about braking records on how many players you can get on one server. well you have done that but now nobody can play the god dam game becase of lag and constant crashing. so now you have a record amount of players who carnt play at any one time. me thinks you just shot your self in the foot. now were is that phone number for the guinnes book of records ?.

Have to say it dosnt get much worse in all the time ive played eve.
Look on the brightside everyone you can use this enforced lag/downtime to look for the next mmorpg to change to/play. On where hopefully the company actually tests upgrades and patches! :)

IMO, they shouldn't have deployed this patch on a Thursday. I think most understand how these things go and so should they. If this lasts all weekend because they are short on manpower, this falls on their shoulders for deploying it at the end of the week, not the beginning.
Most people's play time is highest on the weekend and to expect them to deal with this simply because the resources are not there to fix them in not really acceptable.
I hope they get things squared away soon, I think eve rocks, but it's been a test of patience lately.

"The billing queue continues to be our top priority and we hope that the problems we have faced recently will soon be over. "
