What's with the squeal that is now part of the stargate when someone goes through ?
If the developers are trying to be clever why don't they just have it make a farting sound for every ship ?
Now I have to turn the volume down when other people are nearby.

It's just artistic licence. Since there's no atmosphere to vibrate in space (or at least not enough), there would be little or no sound except any direct impact on the bulkhead of your ship. for enough atoms to be moved to make a sound as large as those jump gates make, it would have to be a sound so massive that even the sun exploding would be just a minor pop compared to it.

I don't think she was complaining about having a sound when people jump through stargates, just that the sound that's used now (post-patch) is 1) louder then I remember it 2) there's 2 sounds for every ship jumping, the stargate activation and the ship cloaking.
It's a bit too "spammy".

Yes, exactly.
It is the second higher pitched sound of cloaking that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. I guess its just me, but I cringe every time I'm near a stargate in use.

Could we limit that sound to non-jump cloaking ? That way we know when a person is cloaking deliberately rather than automatically. Thanks!

Also, when you exit through the other side of a gate, You can hear yourself cloak. This always makes me look around to see whos decloaking at the gate, then i realise its just me... Could the noise of yourself cloaking be removed, but keep the noise of you exiting the gate?

I can't stand the sound anymore, I just turn the sound off whenever I change systems.
