So, has anyone else noticed that the background image for the Winter 2011 Update page has a bunch of uniquely colored Gallente ships in it? If you can, right click on the page and select 'view background image'.
Does this mean we can expect the ability to paint ships soon? Is CCP expanding its micro-transactions portfolio? |

Yes, but Solstice Project was making fun of my admittedly rather poor word choice; I said it as though there could be a ship that paints things, rather than the ability for capsuleers to paint/decorate their own stuff. Unless you're playing along with him and really do get his joke.

I love how some people say things with no source whatsoever. Saying that players won't be able to customize their ships, completely disregarding that CCP is modifying ships so that you can put logos on the ship.

CCP have said Aurum for custom ship decals will be coming.... but not this winter expansion...... it will likely happen some time after summer 2012 expansion when all the ships have been V3'd completely

I doubt there'll ever be fully custom ship skins for three reasons.
1: TTP
2: Lag problems, as you have to download peoples skins
3: Copyright issues.
On the other hand, being able to pick from a bunch of textures and then from a few colours, that's entirely possible. So I'll pick Camo pattern 14, with pink and black. Or a dazzle pattern with red yellow and blue. Avoids all three. |

If you watch this vid ccp released a member of the art team(I think the French dude) mentioned that they are looking at it, not sure if its part 1 or part 2.
He mentions corp logos and stuff. I dont think it will be in next patch.

CCP has already stated that the NEX store, with the ability to offer micro transaction sales, is part of the future of EVE. The players (at least, by their representatives the CSM, iirc), reluctantly agreed to the NEX as long as it contained vanity items only. Now that CCP might be adding the most important vanity item they could offer in the NEX, you want to deny them?
Ship paint jobs are the perfect item to aim for selling on the NEX. It is probably the main thing that CCP should be selling in it. Clothes for avatars, skins for ships. If you want to keep NEX as vanity only, then allow CCP to put the most compelling vanity-only items in it, so that vanity proves to be worth their while (and paint jobs probably will be).

I'd be more than happy to pay for for ship skins if they also lowered the subscription price. I'm already paying 15$ a month for this game. |

Honestly, my biggest concern is if I have to repaint my ship every time it gets destroyed. |

Well NeX clothes don't get destroyed when you're podded so maybe ship skins will be similar. No point raging before CCP makes an announcement. |

Remember the Ishukone (?) special Scorpion?
Remember how it was going to be put in the game magically by paying with Aurum because "there would be no effect on the economy if we spawned scorpions for a week". Then they backpedaled and said they would fix it so it would require a Scorpion + Aurum = Normal Scorpion.
They've said multiple times it will cost Aurum. |
