Why not just light a cyno? (Can you? I've never tried)
Sure it would be useless for its intended purpose but would make a warp able beacon in the system. |

I am not real sure what the OP is offering. . it's some kind of deployable that pings the location of your hole? . . so if you get locked out you can find it again. . by being in other wormholes that ping a distance you are from home? . .
what if the chain doesn't lead back home? does it not ping at all? or does it negate having wormholes and you can just warp directly to your home from anywhere?
ugh i don't know. . the idea sounds terrible. . or at least terribly explained.

to be honest there are a lot of references in many different sci-fi lore of "being able to send signals through anomalies"; maybe not strictly wormholes as we think of them but to be honest there are also references of being able to send not just people though wormholes (ships in our case) but actually send unmanned objects such as probes, bombs or disabling agents.
to be honest the whole idea of gated wormholes is a bit silly to me. I honestly wouldn't mind changes that would allow you to use wormholes for combat or scouting purposes. wormhole space is vast, some sort of long range signals, with ships tuned to pick up those signals, that could be vulnerable to interception would be an interesting twist. It would also give cause to bring back a deep space probe.
could also be very much an addon for new pos structures (revamp) and an official movement towards towards colonized wormholes as recognized on a server level. |

Interesting, but a deployable structure would allow you to not have to sit there and watch the cyno in your noobship. Or use fuel.

As to the OP, I don't think that this suggestion is needed as there are several methods easily utilized to prevent getting lost in w-space.
1. Always fit a cloak
2. In the absence of slots for a cloak, bring a friend with a cloak
3. In the absence of both slots for a cloak or a friend with a cloak, bring an alt with a cloak (and be friendly)
4. In the absence of all of the above, wait for a friend to come online with a cloak
5. In the absence of all of the above, k-space is easily found via R-click 'Self Destruct'
