The 'x days' until Christmas actually begins on Christmas day, not before. Seems CCP has fallen for the same 'get it done early so you can get it over with' mentality as with all other big corporations. |

What has CCP done/said that's prompted this? "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

The festival known as Christmas in English is called Jul/J+¦l/Joulu in the Nordic countries (but then we've only been considered Christian for the about last 1000 years).
Even the various Christian denominations that celebrate it use that name (there's some smaller groups of Christians that refuse to celebrate it at all since there's no solid foundation for it in the good book and they consider it a pure pagan and/or commercial enterprise).
As for the exact date it seems that Santa (or his local cultural avatar) takes care of the Nordics first (possibly because we're close neighbours). So he visits us on the eve of the 24:th, then he hits the road and sorts out the rest of the world on the 25:th.
People more into a scientific explanation could argue that all festivals at that time of year (including new years) should be centred on winter solstice. And that all the different dates are down to errors in calculating a proper calender.

The point of Christmas is to keep you from celebrating Epiphany because putting too much emphasis on Epiphany might give people dangerous ideas... the biblical account sounds too much like an adoption story for comfort.
Christmas emphasizes Jesus' divine sonship from birth and thus acts as a counterweight to Epiphany. Additionally, many Eastern Churches celebrate Christmas and Epiphany on the same day (which ensures that Christmas gets the spotlight) while the Western Churches chose to reinterpret Epiphany to bring it more in line with Christmas (the epiphany at Jesus' baptism is pushed into the background or omitted entirely, instead an epiphany to the wise men is construed and celebrated).

Christmas is the price you pay for getting the idea of a pre-existent son of God into people's heads. There's also the slight cynical idea that since there's wasn't any obvious date to celebrate the birth of Christ the church of that time (300 AD ish) decided that putting it at the same time as several pagan festivals was a good idea.
They didn't have to tell people to stop having a party, they just tweaked the reason. CCP Eterne: Silly player, ALL devs are evil. CCP Fozzie: When Veritas describes a programming challenge as "very hard" I tend to believe him.

Yep this is right, you don't have to log in every day to get the gifts. You could log in at any time and collect all those that are available.
And just to confirm the calendar will be available until the end of January although if you have already claimed all of the gifts these will always be in your in-game redeeming system until you allocate them to your character.

Actually Christmas Eve is short for Christmas Evening, as tradition states the new day begins at sundown. So it's technically not the night before, just the night of Christmas, followed by Christmas day. |
