Hello everyone!
I have a simple question to ask. Are Astronometric rangefinding and pinpointing skills worth training to 5? In right remap they take about 25 and 16 days to train for seemingly small bonus. Though, I quite often scan in unbonused ships, and sometimes find the probe strength lacking. But from my calculations training rangefinding from 4 to 5 increases it for less than 5 points.
Concerning pinpointing, is it really even useful at high probe strengths? And when is it useful?
Thanks a lot! |

I can't really tell you if it's *worth it* or not, for YOU. I can tell you, that I have an alt with perfect scan skills, and I have probed some stuff amazingly fast. I think maybe it depends on how much time you spend probing (sites, that is) time is money. or how important 1 to 3 seconds is when you probe down a combat target. Edit here. If you miss him on a particular cycle, then your adding another scan cycle, and that's another 6ish seconds.
In my opinion, the difference is noticeable, and can be felt. And if I ever sell that alt, I will train the skills to V on another character. For ME. it's worth it. |

If exploration is your main source of income and you love doing it then yes, all 5 is worth it and you will notice difference. I am 11 days away from all scanning skills maxed out and I do not regret at all. |

it's noticeable but no, not worth it anymore now that's it's a 5% bonus and no longer 10%. Stuck In Here With Me:-á http://sihwm.blogspot.com.au/ |

All Scanning skills and scanning ships to V is worth it if you spend a decent amount of your Eve time scanning. |

Like others have said; it's up to you. If you do a lot of scanning and you're not in need of any other skills at the moment, go ahead and slap it on your training plan. It can't hurt anything.
Remember also having these scanning skills at 5 unlock the Tech 2 versions of their requisite scanning upgrades. Never a bad thing especially when you're in unbonused ships. |

With the new mid slot scanning mods you could argue it's not worth it to take them to 5, but as what was said earlier, if you scan a lot or use an alt that does it. Why not. |

Skills to 5 are for finding players. If you're doing that, you definitely need them maxxed out.
If you're doing pve, you could leave them at 4 and not really suffer much lost time. They'll speed things up a bit, but not by much for even the hardest sites. |

Pretty much that, for regular PVP probing, you either need near maxed skills, or a bonused ship. For probing targets that are fitted for resistance to probing, you really need both. |

It depends on you...
Skill training is all about return on investment. The more you invest in a skill the higher the return in terms of damage, time or income (generally speaking) you get from the related action. So what you need to figure out is how much time you are going to realistically spend doing this action (scanning in your case).
For me when I lived in W-space I scanned like my life depended on it (it often did), when I spend some time in highsec scanning was rarely used. In low and nullsec you are likely to need the the skills but maybe not so much as in W-space
My advise would be to look at what you are really going to be doing. Maybe first train them to 4 and then decide if that last 10% or 5% extra speed and precision makes sense to you. |
