If you are running two accounts ont the same computer do you need to do a second install or anything special or will the EVE client take care of things?
Is there a problem (besides performance) with running two intances of EVE in their own window on the same computer at the same time? (I actually have a second computer to run the second account on, but there are times it would be convenient to run them both on the same computer.

As above, I've seen no performance benefit either way. Turning off all sound seems to make the biggest difference.

im currently running 3 accounts on the same machine. i did 3 separate installs and thus separate directories. I can run them all simultaneously. i normally only run sound on one account as running sound on two accounts causes a crash. also, all 3 are in window mode so i can switch back and forth.

I run two accounts with no trouble, apart from having the sound turned off due to performance issues. One account is the proper install, the other is a copy of that but in a different directory.

I run 2 accounts regularly from 1 install without problems.
At most I have had 5 accounts running but it became dificult to use them as they were lagging each other out but I could do the things I needed, all running from one install.
I know that settings etc are encoded with the character number so they never get mixed up and sharing a cache saves on HDD space. << Insert whitty sig here >>

Someone told me once on these forums that runing two accs from the same copy is agains EULA, however running them from two separate copies on the same computer is not.
Official statement would be great though...
Oh and if you are using "save password" feature, two copies are mandatory because client can only remember one password...

I had the odd crash when i was running off the same install but with 2 ive never had any problems. Better safe than sorry imo you dont want to be in the middle of a complex when you crash

Sound is the biggest issue with simultaneous accounts.
I highly suggest a good quality soundcard, and a good processor, for running more than one copy of eve. Seperate directories is not neccessary unless you want to play both with different UI or sound options and not have to change settings everytime you log in again.

I run 3 accounts, all from different installs. I do this simply so that if i change the overview/settings or anything on 1 account it doesnt effect the others (like it does if its 1 install)

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 07/03/2006 11:30:34 I run from different installs. I wanted to seperate the logs that way and avoid, that something bad happens, when both clients try to write to the same file. Don't know if that might happen. On the other hand, maybe there is the disadvantage that the file buffering is not that effective with two installs. With one install, the clients access the same archives and windows can keep large parts of it in memory. With two different installs, windows has to work with two archives, can keep less of them in memory and the harddisc has more work, especially if they are accessed at the same time. Well, maybe that's just theory and doesn't make a difference with EVE. (And most people don't participate in fleet-fights with 2 clients I think. ) *edit* If you want a clear answer, what's right or better, sorry, can't help ^^ ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

No it doesn't, it saves it for the account, both accounts I run run very different settings, for just about everything, and works as a charm on one install. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

any graphical setting etc are saved to the install, not the account. Try it sometime
