I'm a bit confused with the mission system. The guide says :
Quote: Expired mission offers count as missions you refused or failed to complete, and as such lead to standing loss.
When I talk to agents and ask if they have missions, they show me a mission and the offer gets added to my journal. Sometimes, missions are too hard, or I'm not interested in them. But it seems (according to the guide) that I will lose standing just because I read a mission without even accepting it?
If that's the case, is there a strategy to make sure I don't end up taking missions that are impossible for me to complete at my level?

afaik you're still allowed one 'free' decline per 4 hours, where you are not charged a standing loss, so if it is too hard, decline and hope the next one isn't more so

Decline without accepting is free every 4 hours per agent.
If you accept and then say `I cant do it` you ll get standing hit.
Time to complete mission and get bonus is IMO the best way to get an idea about difficulty.

what the others say is correct, but you can still easily beat the system. When you are first offered a mission, you do not need to decline or accept. Just close the window. The mission will be entered in your journal, and you will have several days to decide whether to return to the station and accept the mission. In fact, you can fly around all night asking for missions and never accept or decline a single one. After a specified period of time, the agent will become impatient with you and withdraw the offer. If you accumulate a lot of mission offers this way, they can all come back to haunt you on a day when you have no time to complete them all.
Now, how is it that you can beat the system? If you decline the first mission, that's a freebie. Ask for another. If you want to decline it, just leave the station without accepting it. Come back later and decline it, if you like. Or just let it expire. You won't be penalized. This is how it has seemed to work for me, but I haven't been playing that long. Others please correct me if I'm wrong.

No, you're totally right. Not immediately accepting or declining does give you the freedom to hold off for four hours in order to come back to decline a second mission in succession, all without incurring the standing loss.

I've asked for a COSMOS storyline mission that requires hacking, but have not accepted it. If i let it expire or decline accepting it, will i be able to do it later?
