So, I really enjoy Dust. Crazy, right? But I do. Every change that adds more interaction with Eve is really great. I know CCP is mostly a babystep company with changes(lets be honest, they take any more than that and they thoroughly damage the game) so I have a babystep idea. I have no idea if it's been brought up (i'm sure it has) but I would like to discuss my own small idea for adding more player interaction between Dust and Eve.
I'm focusing mostly on the agressor right now, but there I feel it would be pretty easy to adapt some of this for the defender.
Troop Transports- (Please follow along before you say "been said, won't work" and then, after reading, you can say that if you still feel it)
New Ship Type: Troop Transport -Destroyer sized -Able to fit "Orbital Deployment Module" (or some similiar name) -Can detect inactive planetary districts within a system (IE the sattelits) Maybe some sort of specialised scan for this. -Maybe a tech 2 version with a small supplment of guns to act as Orbi support as well.
Orbital Deployment Module- Allows a MCU to be loaded and then deployed onto a district of a planet below.
MCUs become a purchasable(and manufcaturable) item in the market. They come fully fitted with- -A clone bay and a full supply of biomass - Full armour and shield fittings - A full load of militia equipment, with extra storage for personal mercenary gear.
When a Troop Transport begins orbitting a beacon it appears on the overview and after X minutes, it opens up as a battle in FW for the battling races that when players join FW matchmaking in Dust is an avilable battle. Obviously if there is a cap on the number of battles than it simply becomes the next battle to be formed, in a queue sort of system (or however that could work with Dust's present system)
The defenders, I assume, already have an MCU deployed to the district and so, at present, this is ONLY to attack districts that the enemy controls (which could include ones in systems you control)
Future Advancments-
Lots of possibilities with adapting this system for other use: -Planetary conquest in null. I have no idea how this would work in the overall control of nullsec systems (I personally picture a basic "you have to control the district to do PI on it" ) and maybe expanding this to include controlling moons. Of course, the dream would be using these to attack PoS's with boarding parties but that'd have to be WAY down the road. Could also mean that alliances can choose to simply blap the planet (give larger ships an ammo that simply obliterates everything targetted) destroying existing infrastructure and reducing the planets resource output for a set period (I'm a nub at PI so this is just logical thinking) or deploying ground troops and investing time and resources into securing the planet the hard way. (I don't think Dust should be mandatory for Eve players to involve themselves in, the same that Dust players should not be required to interact with Eve players)
-With the nullsec planetary warfare idea, the launching player could determine who the contract is open to (corp, alliance, blues, anyone etc.) It could pop up in the fourth tab in Dust(which I cannot remember the name of) or perhaps a new tab. Obviously, if a corporation is hurting for numbers they can open it to anyone, offering more than the standard matchmaking but then run the risk, natuarlly, of spies and randoms mucking up their operation.
-Obviously, for non FW (or maybe even for FW) players could control what the MCU is fitted with. Perhaps they shell out extra for higher tech gear as the avaialble stores, basically adding in mission dropsuit fittings that players can access for free/a fee. As well as vehicles. And have ranking limitiations. Maybe only squad commanders can access the vehicles/advance fitting, or only corp mates or blues.
-Lots of possibilities to open up fitting up the MCU, perhaps with deployable turrets and the like. MCU clone bays and CRUs having their own fuel called BIOMASS. Once it`s out, you have to refill/deploy fresh ones. This could also allow controlling the number of clones in the reanimation unit.
-Of course, more troop transports with varying sizes and purposes.
I feel like this could create more interaction between the two existing games, and solves a lot of the issues that arise from trying to have Eve players deploy Dust players (No FPS player wants to sit in a ship cargo hold for hours/days)
Just an idea I was kicking around to expand the interaction and open Dust up as another method of warfare for us capsuleer overlords of the universe ;)
I reposted this from GD because I wasn't getting the discussion I wanted there, which probably shouldn't suprise me >.> |
