I know that if I loot from a drifting can that I will be criminally flagged to the owner and his corp (possibly his alliance?) for 15 minutes.
But if I loot the can I can't see myself loosing standing towards any agents etc, but maybe towards the owners corp?
Also will my security rating drop for looting of cans?
Cheers

Fast ship and some late night looting ahoy - anything to put through those re-processors.

So you can loot anyone's regular cans and they only have 15 minutes to attempt to kill you with no repurcussion? After that, they have lost their chance in highsec space and Concord would kill them if they attempt it to kill you after the 15 minutes?
That doesn't seem like any type of real deterrent from looting.

TBH if you leave your cans floating around for more than 15 minutes and your not around then you dont really want the contents.
If like most you group mine and have about 5 cans in space used by the group protected by a big ass ship then your not likly to get robbed.

The deterrent is that a looter can't do it in front of you with your guns pointing at him. Example: You are ratting in a belt and left some cans which has lousy loot to float in space and jumped out of the system to try other belts in other systems.
Another NPCer warps to your belt, sees no one around but see a lot of cans, he opens one after a warning and finds some ammo he likes and proceed to pick everything up in the belt. Is he considered a looter? Or a scavenger? If the timer was longer maybe 1 hour or more, he might run into you when both of you somehow decided to make a trip back to Jita to clear your holds. You blast him to bits, he claims innocence, and he is, but you wouldn't have any of it, he is blinking red to you and you want blood for nothing.
Another example: You are doing a mission in empire space, near a gate, clearing wave after wave of Guristas, when you're done with the last wave, you realise you are about 40km from your starting point where your first loot can drop.
As you make your way there, another frigate is heading towards it. He approaches your can and proceed to open one and starts blinking red. You start to lock him and fire all your guns at him. He takes damage, scared like a rabbit and proceed to warp away. You reach your can and type in a warning on local, 'Try that again and I'll blow you to bits you PUNK!!'.
Whether or not he comes back with a battleship to grief you is another matter ^^, but the theft timer was put there to deter it, NOT to prevent it. As being a looter, thief, scavenger, etc. is a supported profession. --------------------------------------------- If someone says wait for the light to turn green before crossing the street, you donÆt step out into traffic and get wtfpwnÆd do you? |
