Axloth Okiah wrote:Observation. People have been saying 'whs are dying' for far longer than this subforum existed (its exactly the same with any other area of the game btw): Farmers were supposed to kill whs - they clearly didnt. Logoff ganking was supposed to kill whs - it clearly didnt. Dropping activity was supposed to kill whs - go check killboards. Dropping population was supposed to kill whs - population increased instead (except C6 space). Massive multi-hole alliances were supposed to kill whs - disintegrated. Giant coalitions of permanent blues were supposed to kill whs - gone too. Concentration in massive corporations was supposed to kill whs - instead we have bunch of new groups showing their muscles as some of the old ones ran out of steam.
All we see are just short term ebbs, flows and fads. But people keep screaming about end of the(ir) world over and over again. So instead of impossibly trying to prove the negative, I'd like to see something that actually demonstrates that whs are in fact dying.
So, because you observed it, it's true? (true that it's not true I guess). And because people have beens aying it for a long time, it's true? I think it's an issue of semantics. You take "whs are dying" literally to mean that player occupation will cease to exist, which will not happen. I take it to mean the space will stagnate, which is what I observe everyday.
C4 static, it's a barren ******* wasteland. Everyday there is either farmers or nothing, and of those farmers I rarely see any online and have only ever gotten 2 fights out of them. I've been in at least one C4 everyday for nearly a year.
With my interpretation:
Farmers are killing wormholes - yes, all they do is farm and get farmed. Logoff ganking - is a consequence of farming Dropping activity - is a consequence of lack of content Dropping population - population has not increased, also consequence of dropping activity Massive multi-hole alliance - disintegrated because ineffective Giant coalitions of permanent blues - gone because of previous Concentration in massive corporations - out of steam because too big
You just listed a bunch of cause and effect relationships without even identifying that's what they were, and all directly related to the claim that wormhole space is dying. You'd be better off arguing that wormhole space checks itself than claiming those things were never a problem in the first place. Wormhole space isn't dying or stagnating, but it has less people (as we used to drive our own out at a rate new blood couldn't compete with) who are more centralized (as new blood and former new blood join the big boys). This isn't ebb and flow, there is no cycle, and people "screaming about the end of their world" are not getting the content they used to. You could say they've observed it.
Axloth Okiah wrote:

Observation does not a fact make. There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency. |

I made claims based on observation and under no illusion they are facts. I stated as much. Some of my observations are in direct contradiction to yours, so I asked for evidence for your "facts". You had none, because they weren't facts. They were observations. Observations aren't facts, they are observations.
While I patiently wait for population statistics, I'm not convinced by your claims. In fact, I think they're asinine. I cannot prove it nor have claimed to prove it, because I know what facts are. These are just my observations. There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency. |

You are claiming that population is declining and more centralized, so you need to deliver something that demonstrates that. As it stands now, you made a claim and you demand from others to disprove it. As you perhaps know, its not possible to prove a negative on its own.
As far as my observations go, I dare say I am in reasonably good position to assess both centralization and overall population of wspace. As a diplomat for major wh corp, I am in contact with all other large and many small wh groups and follow their developments (like standings changes, alliances reforming, etc) and it gives me good handle on the former, while being wh realtor and watching how both supply and demand for various classes of holes and statics changes gives me at least as good insight into the latter. So I would say my observations arent exactly baseless and are the very reason why I call BS on yours and demand evidence for them. W-Space Realtor |

I may "disagree" a little with Axloth. I said the death is slowly creeping up on wormholes. Why did I say it? It's demographic change, question will be is it a good one? I may agree that the population as it is, is on a highnote but thats a mixture of Growth and decay.
Rubicon made it easier for newcomers to go into Wormholes, the huge skill requirements of previous days are gone. Nowadays a new player can enter Wormholes rather quick without gathering aaaany expierence in the other spaces, which is impressive. On the other side you have the decay of the interest of older players who are leaving wormholes, re-arranging or bluntly just stop playing. So "wormhole" space as I know it is dying. New Blood is raising up and thats a good thing sad but good. But this is also leading towards a "stalemate".
We need changes for both sides of the COIN! Otherwise we will be stuck in the same old same old.....Old people need the excitement back and newcomers need the oppertunity....
"We just had a big fight bla bla yadda yadda..." Yes people need this once every 6 months to get their rocks of these days... My mind does not reflect my corp ... it just shows you what they care about...

I've done no such thing, and seriously, how long ago were you educated? It's terrible, it's like you think tossing out buzzwords and smirking is going to win you an argument.
The burden of proof is irrelevant because neither of us can prove anything at this point. The method we have to use is to demonstrate evidential support for our claims, to demonstrate that the claims are not baseless (neither of our claims are baseless, they're both founded on observation). It's like if I walked up to you and claimed there's a unicorn blowing a leprechaun in the backseat of your Shelby Cobra, and you don't believe me. Why? Because it's completely baseless.
Then, we compare the claims for assumptions or needless complexity. For you to believe what I insist to be observation, that a unicorn was blowing the leprechaun, you'd have to assume the existence of both leprechauns and unicorns, as well as the existence of this Shelby Cobra you didn't know you owned, the modification of a backseat to a car that does not have the frame for a backseat, the ability for a unicorn to fit in the backseat, the capacity for a unicorn to blow, and the desire for a leprechaun to get blown by a horse. On and on it goes.
And here we hit a bump. Neither of use have facts, and neither of us have documented evidence. They're equally useful and useless. The next step would be to verify the evidence, but there's nothing to test except replicate the observations, something nobody is willing to do. Here's the part where your facts would come in handy, but alas, that was only a delusion.

I have met plenty of w-space diplos, and 90% of them suck. It's unbelievable how careless we are with diplomacy, just because everyone's so pompously superior and afraid of becoming nullsec. As far as I can tell, being a diplo in w-space is claiming trashtalk rights in local for the vast majority of players. And of course your observations aren't baseless, they're based on what you observed. So you claim that, because you're a diplo, your claims are assumed to be true, and my claims are bs and you need evidence for them to even be considered? I'm a diplo too, you know, what does that do for your principles? I'm normally active daily on wormholesales.com. OMG I make billions trading, that has something to do with demand and supply, right? Hell yeah, I'm an expert on random irrelevant things too. So tell me, mister diplo, what is the population of wormhole space? I skipped that lecture at diplo school. Having been a diplo myself at one point, I can say there is far more involved than just trash talking. I also can't deny the trash talking you speak of. It really just depends on the person you are dealing with. I've been fortunate enough to deal with more decent diplos than terrible ones. Really though, it's not an overly complicated job provided you aren't running a big blue donut type deal or your group has a generally **** reputation.
As far as the state of wh space goes, it's the same as it always has been. Groups that are lazy, don't scan, or sit there and chain roll their static all night aren't going to find anything to do. That doesn't mean wh space is dead. It means said groups didn't do their part to create any content for themselves.
