the basic IDEA
Make faction or corp standing based auctioning possible in Certain key locations. These could be Financial NPC corporations within eve allready or whole new NPC corp focused on ingame auctioning. -Amount of auctions could be limited to skills if needed.
Such a system would work towards having bussiness as main career in eve to even more distinct choise to focus into. (more use for the Charisma atribute perhaps.)
Rough form: 4-12 key locations where you can setup an auction. These systems would naturally form into trade hubs of that area. -There could be different types of auctions and various parameters you can setup your acution with. LIke reserves etc. one type of auction that comes to mind action type where ppl who want to participate into it have to register in the beginnig of the auction in order to be able to bid on it during it's whole lenght.
Some ideas to go in hand with the system: -adverts to billboards (this could cost isk)
- the wildest idea involves using shaders or what ever graphics code to form inside station graphical projections that reflect the bidders and bids made and status information about the auction going on. (Stock exchainge in eve kinda thing) Or you could move into a auction hall. Basically a graphical enviroment that actually has very little realtime information transmitted. (to save bandwith offcourse)
Priority n. one and a demand! The whole auction system well coded! No bugs wanted. CCP devs pls. dont get me wrong here I love you and all. But we all know the code is not allways as finished as we players wish it to be.
G.G
And guys keep the discussion to the subject thank you.
This idea was orginally brought up in the ! latest ! Enyo auction aranged by DD. kudos to him without he's way of setting up auctions this idea here would not exsist.

I think that is a great idea.
- Only one who really has the item should be able to auction it and - Only those who have the money should be able to bid
Perhaps you could enter some keywords and (for a fee) get evemail when an interesting auction is up - or at least a channel where sellers can advertise their auctions. (a bit easier than the ideas mentioned above although those would be way better )

Some sort of auction could be interesting... but it would conflict with the current market system. As it is right now in Eve the sellers set the prices. Granted whether or not buyers buy at those prices will cause a seller to lower a price. Also, other sellers coming in and under cutting the first seller will also set the price.
Setting up an in game auction would give price control to the players.
---
Now, what's the problem with that you may ask?
The problem with that is, in areas with less people prices of items will actually be les then in areas with lots of people. Since sellers will have a hard time finding buyers in those areas. This then means that one person could come along and bid on an item and buy it with no competing bidders to raise the price. And then this in turn means it wont be worth it for merchants to travel to those far out reaching areas... but instead the merchants will all flock to the populated areas where there are more possible bidders even more then they already do.
An auction would cause the whole Eve economey to be even more focused in on the populated areas then it already is, causing more lag in those areas, and less expansion... and it's expansion that I believe the makers of Eve are shooting for.
Now, we could have a universal auction, where people could bid from all the way across the univers, but then the problem of item location arrives. If I'm on one half of the univers, I don't want to be bidding on items on the other half. This cause new trade issues, and once again incurages everyone to flock to the populated areas causing those areas to remain populated.
-----
The current Eve market is fine for expansion. It incurages traders to travel to the out reach areas where there are less buyers, but be able to charge a higher price. Granted, buyers then may move to the more populated areas for a lower price (and they do).. you'd be surprised how many buyers are willing to pay that extra bit for goods in their areas of haunting (and hunting).
If anything the auctions need to stay out, and the escrow system needs an overhaul (which I hear they're doing).

The amount of auctions you can setup would be limited by skills (perhaps) key locations would in secure empire space. Unversal auctions dont sound bad at all.
1.The normal eve market would stay as it is. No need to remake anything there. 2.This new auction system would be used for special items and bpo's only. 3.Main aspects of the system make eve economics work & feel even better. 4.Turn super valuable item sales into small events in the game that get atention. 5. you could not take part in auctions if you are not a member of a corporation (perhas) 6. Skill requirements could be high for the skills needed for auctioning stuff 7. in relation to point 6. you could setup a auction of a pile of stuff offcourse. 8. the item location might be anywhere in secure space if you had very high skills (perhaps.) Item location could be allso limited to offices of said corporation that you can set up the auctions in the first place.

The main idea behind the auction is for EVERYONE to see what SOMEONE has for sale.. I dont think that skills or standings should affect being able to buy/sell.. Think how much more the market would suck if you couldnt buy the stuff you needed because your standings were'nt up to snuff... The auction should be as acessable as the market.. The idea is to keep people ingame trading the awesome products and bpos the game offers as opposed to them siting in someones hanger cause its such a pain in the ars to actually get the buyer and seller together
(And im surprised you gave kudos to DD... I brought the idea up BECAUSE of the poor manner in which he has ran his past several auctions.. )

A simple auction engine like the one of WOW is perfect.
Seller: when he put on the auction the item is taken by the game, so he cannot sell out of auction or put on laib for month by mistake; the buyer has the warrenty that the item is there waiting the winner. He receive notification of biddings.
Buyer: when he bid the money are taken so he cannot spent elsewhere and so people will think before bidding on auction, i saw many bidding on 3-4 hoping to win only one because not have the money. Seller has the warrenty that the money are there. He receive notification of overbidding and the money bidded when it occurs.
No skills, no limitations for buyers, same skill of market for seller. Add an icon inside the station to access the Auction House.
If CCP has made a modular engine as they said everywhere they should need only 1 day of coding to make a so simple modules.

all that is certainly true - but such an auctioning platform is not a different system of market or something completely new to the game. it would be something out-of-game (forums) put in-game with some rules and some security for both sides (seller and buyer) it is the same in the forums, the location of the item is always a factor ... noone will ever buy a 20b BPO in 0.0

ATM the game lacks proper auction system so in that respect it would be new ingame feature. As would a ingame killboard system. And this system would go hand in hand with the fine market we have.
This new system would benefit the buyer and seller by providing security and means of controlling the outcome of the auction. As the system would provide various options and rules that have to be met in order for the item to be auctioned. Like Hidden reserves etc.
all features like sniper rule etc. could be coded and would provide a no compromise system.
For instance you as a auctioneer could setup sniper rule so that the other participants in the auction would automatically get 2-5 min window after the latest bid is made to be abel to outbid the other bidder. Current forum clok based system has seen many ppl missing the sniper because of forum lag and what ever.
