Hi,
I recently bought myself my first Cruiser after 2 weeks of saving.
I picked a Vexor... seemed like a fun ship that can both mine and fight.
I only had it for a few days when I was travelling around and I was jumped by a guy in a Rupture. Someone else showed up, too, but I think it was just the Rupture at first.
I was fighting 3 rats at the time and was handling them okay, but when this guy showed up and started locking me I decided it was best to warp out immediatly.
So I try to warp and suddenly my capacitor is at ZERO. Absolutely empty.
I noticed there was a red glow around my ship, too.
What did he do to me? Use a Nosferatu or something?
If so, why was it so effective? I mean, he was in an equal ship (both mid-range cruisers?) and he had me dead in the water in SECONDS.
Needless to say I was dead shortly after and I lost my new ship and all the stuff I had just fitted it with.
What did he do to me and what is my defense against this?
Any tips would be welcome so that when I can finally afford another Vexor I won't get eaten alive again...
Thanks

yes he was nossing you and maybe using energy neutralisers too, i dont think your cap was dead in seconds tho, even if all he had was nos then itd still take a min unless your cap was already pretty empty. you cant avoid being nossed but you can avoid not being able to warp out, fit a pair of warp core stabilisers on ur ship.

he could have been using a mix of nos and neuts, would have killed your cap straight away if you had already been tanking

You were nossed or had your cap neutralized. Chances are you weren't aware of the fact that you'd been locked and were being sucked dry until it was too late. Or, you had let your cap get low to the point that all he needed was that first cycle of his energy vamps to take all your cap.
Even then though, you can warp with no cap. This of course brings about the likely reality that you were warp scrambled a bit before you noticed this guy was going "hostile" on you.
Just a couple tips, if you are going to venture into .1. to .4 space to rat, you have to spend as much time watching local\watching who warps into your belts,etc...as you do watching the progression of your encounters with the npcs. Also one thing I always do when ratting is once I warp into a belt, and assume my "attack" stance versus the npcs, is to note where my escape route would be. IE, be aligned if possible to something. Or near aligned.

My cap may have already been a tad low, but nothing below half I don't think.
As far as warping out goes, I actually had a Warp Core Stabalizer equipped...
I kept trying to warp and I just sat there doing nothing.

He probably had more than a single point of scram on you.

Don't worry about it. Live and learn. Next time watch local a bit closer and don't be fooled by positive sec status in terms of suggesting soandso isn't a pirate.

You need 2 stabs to counter a warp scrambler (one will only counter a warp disruptor)
and then he could have 2 scramblers, in that case you need 4 stabs. Kaos Empire |

Ras Blumin killed me once. We had a nice chat after that. (Or that may have been someone else.)

You're cap went down instantly because you probably tried to warp to a fairly distant target. Warping uses up cap. You got scrambled meanwhile and probably his nosses kept your cap depleted.

Although your cap can never be empty (absolute zero) because of the recharge rate...
Which means if you weren't scrambled you'd have jumped .00001 (approx) of an AU and escaped. The fact that you didn't means you were scrambled/disrupted, and therefor your Cap had no effect on your escape.
Oh... And NEVER fly what your can't afford to lose...

Self-defence in EVE is similar to self-defence in real-life. Think of hi-sec empire as the nice part of town, lo-sec empire as the slums and ghettoes and 0.0 as warzones.
If you are attacked in lo-sec, your opponent almost certainly has the advantage on his side, otherwise he would not have attacked you. A Rupture is a Tier 3 cruiser, while a Vexor is a Tier 2 cruiser, so he had a material advantage. He also took you by surprise while you were already weakened from fighting rats. Very often pirates have friends or hunt in a pack. If you let them control the engagement, you will lose. The key is to avoid being attacked in the first place:
1. Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose.
2. Be alert and aware. Watch local and your overview. If you see anyone or anything suspicious, just pack up and leave.
3. If you are attacked, focus on getting away unless you are sure you can beat your attacker (and his friends who might arrive soon). Break his scramble and warp. You can break a warp scramble by mounting WCS, getting out of scramble range, nossing him dry or jamming him.
In 0.0, it's different. You are entering a warzone. You need to outgun, outrun or outnumber everyone, preferably all of the above.
