Seriosuly, you must admit that the new deimos icon after blood patch is just pure ugliness, its easily one of the worst ship icons atm. The old icon looked cool and powerful, while the new one strongly reminds me of whatever the public opinion of what the thorax looks like is (ye know what I mean). I know CCP changed the icons to fit the whole ship into this small pic, but plzplz can't we have an exception here?

Same here. Is there a cache that needs clearing or something?
Also, thumbs up on the new icons. The cutoff nose pics always drove me nuts.

Yes! If I remember right, it used to be like that, but they changed it to the stupid one where you can't actually see the new ship. I'm glad they've put it back.
Did they zoom the Ishtar picture out a bit as well?

Sorry but as an avowed rax (deimos eventually) driver I have to say I like the newer icons.
Never liked the cut off nose view either so guess I'm in the 'no' camp.

I prefer the new icons too. All icons have been changed, even the drone icons that finally shows what they where supposed to do. You have to clear your chache to see them.

Don't clear the whole cache, as it will erase your bookmark folders and whatnot.
The ship pictures are located in <your eve folder>/cache/pictures/gids/ directory. Simply clear files in there and the game will generate new updated ones next time they're needed.
(and yes, all ships should show fully now... since it's the code responsible for generating these icons that got fixed. praise Redundancy for it ;s

Most of the new ship icons are HORRIBLE. Zooming out is unnecessary for most ships, it makes them look tiny and pixelated, and lacking in character. I don't fly a Thorax, but at least the zoomed in version shows the curves and dynamics of it. Just another bad mistake, that doesn't "really" affect the game, but takes away from it nonetheless.

"Most of the new ship icons are HORRIBLE."
Something to clarify... these icons aren't made by anyone, and there is no conscious thought or design decisions behind them. It's a simple piece of code that takes 3d objects, places it in front of camera and renders this view against space nebula background.
Up until now the code responsible for it was bugged, which resulted in placement of some ships to be off -- too close, too far, invisible even and whatnot. The code got eventually fixed and is now rendering these ships as it was originally intended, i.e. in a way that allows you to see the whole object. That's all ^^;;

It was still a change, and it works how it works now, producing the result, so it's not relevant whether or not a human being went and created all the icons manually.

It's been "bugged"... for almost 3 years? That's quite a bug. Some games don't last as long as that "bug." I think it's fair to say the old ship icons, "bug" or not were part of the game we were all used to, and now have been changed. There are such things as good mistakes. It's good to be able to see a picture of a ship that looks like something. I'd suggest they alter it to produce the best possible picture of each ship, but given that it took 3 years just to "fix... the GLITCH", we'd probably end up with all the stargates exploding as a result. So I'll just live with whatever sucky graphics pop up on my screen.

"It's been "bugged"... for almost 3 years? That's quite a bug."
There's a priority when it comes to fixing things... and i'd guess something like this was rated to be of such low importance no one really bothered with it while there was much more serious bugs to fix. It took ages to give one of drones the 3d model it was missing, too...
"I'd suggest they alter it to produce the best possible picture of each ship"
Well, but how exactly do you teach a piece of computer code to recognize what sort of render will be "best possible picture"? It doesn't know what the object actually looks like, never mind being aware of human opinion on what looks good...

lol Usually when people nit-pick little things like this you know the game is near perfect, but we know that isn't the case atm, don't you think there are more important things to fix.

I don't really like any of the ship icons, because anything bigger than a pod just can't be properly represented in that small a space. I'd much rather a simplistic 2D/wireframe or something that would enable you to identify it at-a-glance, and then a much larger higher resolution picture of the ship itself inside, say, the information window.

I think some would prefer to have 3D icons. Animated gif icons that rotate and show off the whole ship, zoom in/out and look pretty.
Only while they are admiring the icon, the rax has just squeezed a rather large cruise right up their exhaust.

What bothers me is the new look of the ship icons on the overview. They look small and very grainy. Like this:
