Edited by: Lorette on 09/03/2006 02:55:32 Being in a shield tanked brutix and thus a laughing stock, ive been trying (very hard) to find any benefit in armor tanking.
Ok lets take 2 medium modules (Lrg SB2+shield amp)
+312 shield 4 seconds 153.6 cap (with current skills)
So thats 78 shield regened a second And 38.4 cap/s to sustain it
Now we go to the armor equivilent (2x medium armor rep II)
+880 (im just pretending to have BC V here to make it have a chance) 9.6 seconds 320 cap
Thats 91.67 armor regened a sec And 33.33 cap/s to sustain it
Hmm armor looks better you say?
Well i also have 3755 shields w/t 560 regen which is roughly 16 shield/s @ 30% shields That bumps up shield regen/s to 94, therefore beating the armor regen by 3 for an extra cost of 5 cap/s. Close call, but then the fiddly stuff comes in, like the fact that armor tanking doesnt leave you with a very good cap, whereas shield tanking involves PDU's, boosting cap quite a bit (about 3 c/s per PDU2 by my calculations).
The final nail in the coffin is that the shield modules add up to: 166 grid 165 cpu Armor ones: 346 grid 56 cpu. And being gallente grid is wayyyyy more important than cpu.
Also note this shows that shield tanking has a tiny 'overall' benefit to a (BC V) Brutix what happens when you take that +37.5% boost to rep power away....
Someone please right my stupid ideas please

1) armor rep eats alot of cap thats true, but shield tank eats cap "faster" 2) armor reppers usually have more cap and grid 3) shield tankers face serious cpu issues very often, and look at cpu and grid in relative spec. usually its a 3:10 factor
i deal 766dmg\8.35 rof with a raven i tanked it, n went head to head with a dual rep apoc, had only basic gunnery compared to my missiles
and he repped all my damage, tanked me till i was drained up and couldnt tank anymore and beat me.
every method has its faults and virtues, armor tanking is better on the long run, shield tanking can take ALOT of damage for a very short amount of time. u guys got more lows to play with aswell, i want 8 meds on a decent ship, scorp is just grrr with no dmg mods. (unless for pvp racials ftw)
train your skills and adapt to ur enviroment :)
EDIT: i cant spell.
luv b2k

hm, interesting stuff
please ppl no comments like shield tankers this, armor tankers that. This is about what gives you the most hp/s on a brutix.

So, um, how many hardeners are you using with that shield tank?

Dont need em with that regen, i only use my brutix for lv3's and theres only 1 or 2 missions that require a hardner. For those i just drop my AB or shield amp (-50% dmg is better than +30 regen).

Edited by: Jerick Ludhowe on 12/03/2006 09:40:56 What are you going to put in the rest of your mids? Armor tanking on a Brutix is an excelent idea because you have the perfect mid slot layout for pvp. Cap Booster, Web, scram and MWD.
Also for your calculations to be 100% accurate you will need to factor in the shield regen on the armor tanked Brutix as well.

Shield regen only 'works' at roughly 30% shields while armor tanking shield is at 0% thus something irrelevant like 2 shield/sec on my shield+regen stats.

Fair enough.
Another question, what do you use in your lows?

Heh 4x PDU2's and a nano. i could rip out 2-3 of them but i cant think of anything better to put in there

Well you definataly got me thinking about what the ideal mission running Brutix is now. For pvp I will always use an armor tank because I need those mids, but for running lvl3s shield tanking sounds pretty viable.
Thanks for the info Lorette
