Hi,
finally came around to look for a bumping thread, cause tbh.. all this brainless pseudo roleplay behaviour by the bumpers in common mining systems starts making me sick :(
Here's an idea, which even might satisfy the physics/technology fans:
What if CCP would come to the conclusion that the way mining lasers and harvesters work is actually based on gravimetrics.. I mean.. how would a laser be at all technically useful for mining if not by breaking the raw asteroid's structure and moving the melted/crushed/whatever minerals to the mining ship by the fact that the harvesting module technically increases the ships mass by a huge factor by manipulating the gravimetric environment of the vessel. It would be like a huge drainage mechanism.
Technically, any activated harvesting module should increase the ships mass by a factor of.. lets say 100. as a side effect, mining ships would be almost immobile just like certain other ships when their respective modules (siege, bastion etc.) are active. The boring and awful bumping game would stop working instantly (with anything that hasnt a huge mass on its own). Ships needing to move for any reason would have to deactivate the harvesting modules, first.
Proper miners wouldn't have to be worried. Even in low or null they'd just have to watch local carefully like all the time while the lame excuse of the bumpers, namely the bot bot miners, would become even more vulnerable to quick raids.
Really, what other method would be as convenient and still technically explainable? And how convenient is the fact that eve already uses almost exactly the same mechanism to immobilize certain other ships.
So, CCP.. please think about it.. and please get rid off this lame griefing mechanism by simply adding a simple mass Multiplier attribute to harvesting modules when activated, making eve a much better place to be.
Dont get me wrong.. I'm not mining. I havent mined in years even on my oldest toon, but bumping pseudo roleplaying griefers everywhere and all day long really are annoying as hell.
Lets see if anyone responsibles in eve considers such an idea to be worth testing... After 10+ years addiction to this game I would LOVE to be surprised by some straight DEVs fixing a truly annoying situation ;) There is no reason to allow lowlife griefers to harass whoever they want by abusing bogus game mechanics, ransoming questionable fees for even more questionable "services" while babbling non stop about their so called code, and how honorful it is to pay these for the "communities benefit". Makes me almost want to puke.

How terrible this proposal is, this makes me want to get this implemented, fit an oversized prop mod on a stabber, lock onto an asteroid with a strip miner and get a bump off with stabber to a miner while having the mass of a small moon. Dat 100mn MWD, 7x mining lasers, 7x 1600 plates Bumpariel... or abaddon/rokh/naga with 8 turret slots Well even if they applied mass multiplication only to strip miners its not like Titans cannot be bumped or strip miners have infinity range. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. |

Why could even mining boats have the powergrid and cpu to fit a propulsion mod instead? signature |

You could pay the 10m for a mining permit and the bumping should stop. I don't necessarily endorse this solution, but it is a valid one and I'm reasonably sure it's effective.
You could also just HTFU and stop being AFK while you mine.
You could also try posting in one of the TWO open anti-bumping threads instead of feeling that you're a special snowflake who deserves to open a third. |

The mass increase on strip miners would be fine, but not on mining lasers (or at least limit the amount from mining lasers). Ventures are great at moving and mining, even using an afterburner at the time so they're hard to bump off rocks and shouldn't get the same penalty. But it would be good for barges, which aren't known for their maneuverability, plus strip miners can't be mounted on anything else so no other ships would get that mass increase. X |

alternatively; stop mining where bumpers operate. Yay, this account hasn't had its signature banned. or its account, if you're reading this. |

In all my mining experience, I never found "bumping" to be a big deal... -á-á- remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not-á "afk" cloaking-á-

sounds like harassment and coercion to me. if it ever happened to be id just report all bumpers for harassment in the hope they get banned.
and most people arnt afk just tabbed out while watching YouTube or what ever between cycles.
as for frigates bumping larger ships it dosnt really make sense since a smaller ship should have very little effect on a bigger ship there should always be a recent threat showing in-depth math and equations about how it shouldn't. _______________________ http://i.imgur.com/d9Ee2ik.jpg

CCP's already ruled that bumping miners isn't harassment unless they leave the system and you follow them.
If you're not paying attention to what's going on, is there really a useful difference between AFK and other things?
I agree with your third point that smaller ships having a noticeable effect on larger ones is a bit unusual. |

Bumping a miner out of range of its lasers is against the EULA, assuming you are proven to be found doing it repeatedly. |

really? i mean...really!?!
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=199310&find=unread
was posted just before. for extra clarification, u must be found doing it repeatedly AND following the target despite deliberate evasive actions i.e. following them across several systems and/or using locator agents to hunt them down and harass them.
if the miner makes no real attempt to get away from the bumper, it is not harassment and therefore not against EULA. There are no vets in EVE. Only varying levels of Noobery. |
