I was thinking...If I have a mission 4 jumps away why not make the trip more profitable by buying what's cheap at my location and selling it for profit along the way. So I was wondering if there is an easy way to do this as oppose to having to arguously click through every item, find whether or not there are buyers anywhere near the direction I am going by displaying on map, etc.
Also is there a way of finding out if you by X amount of some commodity whether it will all fit in your current cargo hold? I made the mistake of buying too much **** (manure) 1 jump away and it didn't all fit in my cargo.
The other question was why is there no ability to do lost n found? Meaning if I find someon's cargo floating in space why can I not pick it up and offer to return the goods to that person for a fee? Either that or if someone leaves cargo out in space to float they should loose claim to it after an hour or somethin.

Alas, I haven't found any way (and nobody has suggested one to me) for finding trades except by clicking through the listing item by item. I have learned, though, that a little experience yields methods that make it go a lot faster. On volume, each item has an "i" on a blue background. Click on that for info, or right click the item and click "Show info". The info includes the vol per unit, so you can calulate the number of items to fill your hold.

Thanks.
I wish there was a way to find out immeditely what each waypoint needs on my way somewhere so then I can check local prices on the stuff and maybe make an arrangment to drop off the goods on my way.Like...search for items in demand by place as oppose to the other way round.
Well I did manage to transport and sell all the manuer I bought. Made about $40,000 ISK. Not bad considering I don't have a cargo hauler for a ship.

Manure, eh? I don't think I've seen manure on the list, but I'm in Caldari. Maybe there are small differences between the various tribal areas. You're right -- trading is hard work. Come up with a system that makes it easy and there's your fortune!

It was near bottom on the market item list. bought for 1.00 ISK. Sold it for 1.65.
What about the lost n found? Seems silly people leave stuff in space to rot and you can't touch it. Even to return it to it's owner.

Not completely dependable, but quite useful all the same

If it's left in space, then there's 1 of 2 reasons why it's there: 1) the owner didn't want it or couldn't carry it or 2)someone's left it there as a trap.
Unless it's a secure container (ie passworded), you can always steal the contents and if you show info on the can, you can see who owns it if you really want to return it (or avoid the owner). I've personally found quite a few cans with good stuff just floating in space - the owner usually flying away quickly in a pod...

When i delved into trading i tweaked it down to, each station i'd stop off at i'd open the market window and choose for it to only display the items in that perticular station, than i'd look into the consumer/industrial goods to see if there was anything i could buy at the station/solarsytem and make a profit in a few jumps.
Once i found something i'd check the size of it, than devide my cargo space with the size of the item i chose to see how much i could carry, when you find out how much you can fit in your hauler, by a small amount of the comodity and the price for me 9 times out of 10 would drop, once dropped i would fill up the hauler at the cheaper price to make that extra bit of profit, i'd try and keep it to a max of 4 jumps to sell. Once at the station to sell start the process again.
I tried the, find a cheap comodity to sell expensive and run the route a few times but, i found trying to buy or sell stuff at every station i'd dock to make a stedier income.
Doing the above example at times you can find a nice little ring to run back and forth where every station you dock at you can sell or buy.
Something else i would do if i coudlnt fill my hauler was to set the destination to where i was planning on selling my cargo, i'd open the map to see a list of all the systems i was going to pass on the route and see if there was something i could buy to fill the rest of my hauler and make a profit on the same route. you can display the market to list items on how many jumps away they are, which really helps to find cheap items on the route you plan to take.

Edited by: Nyabinghi on 10/03/2006 19:40:10 Thanks for the help. I just wish I could set a destination and then filter buyers based on waypoints in that destionation.
As far as lost n found (or finder's keepers) Does taking cargo and becoming an enemy mean that that person who cargo you took will know you took it and have you in their dislike list? If that person you took the cargo from is part of a Corp does that make you an enemy of the Corp?
Edit:
Can I courier for another player? Any need for that?

I don't know whether they'll get told you took it, but you will be criminally flagged to the owner and their corp for 15 minutes (you'll see the aggression counter pop up), during which time they can legally kill you without Concord getting involved. Whether they'll still dislike you after the agression counter finishes is up to them, but they can't fire on you in safe space without Concord getting involved (unless you get a war declaration from their corp on yours).
Yes, you can courier for another player - they're usually found under escrow (look under missions while docked in station).
Be careful - some escrows are scams or traps for novice players. One classic is to set an escrow mission to a 0.0 or other system with a camped gate, or to a POS which you cannot dock at. The scammer gets to keep the fee you paid as you cannot complete the mission.

Thank you again for the assistance.
BTW what's the fastest cargo runner? Doesn't have to be Minmatar.
