Read this knowing that I'm a very famous ore recovery specialist in Amarr and it's surrounding systems. I honestly want equality, just like everyone else.
I think we should all stop this arguing amongst ourselves. The real problem here, once again, is CCPs lack of response as to what changes will be implemented to solve it.
Perhaps we should band together... and get CCP to give in to our demands. Once again, the only way to solve this problem is to:
1) lower the jettisoned can capacity to 100 so it will be used only for jettisoning cargo, and not storing it 2) raise the jettisoned can buffer to 10 minutes so people dont jet cans over and over and over, and lower the life expectancy to 30 minutes to keep space clean 3) allow trade windows in space when less than 1500m from the trader so miners can give the ore to their friends in indys. 4) fix the bugged secures so miners can store ore in them 5) create vehicles specifically for mining, or allow more than 1 mining laser to be put in an indy (seriously, 2 high slots, but only 1 turret mount? I'd like to see indys have 1 weapon turret mount but 4 mounts seperate mounts for mining lasers only) 6) Do not add criminal flag to container picking. It would make it pointless to clean out the trash, and would not be needed if the above demands are met.
You all need to realize we're all on the same side.
Lets stop the bickering, and join forces. Flood the board with these demands. E-mail the dev team. Let your words be read by those who can change this situation. We will be victorious.
So since it's the containers that are the problem, we will call ourselves the People for the Revamp of Exploit Containers, or PREC. (ha... kinda sounds like that word t00r called me once...)

I've got a better idea. **** containers alltogether when jettisoning -- just have the actual items jettisoned, and then ya have to use mining drones to recover the floating goods (unless they're large, and scoopable).

Or... mine with a mate in an indy. If by chance a theive spots you while ur indy friend is dropping off the last load, the amount of ore in the can will be so small that it wouldnt really matter if he stole it anyway.

I think that jettisoned cans should be passworded and trapped so that if you try to open one and don't have the code it explodes destroying your ship and your pod.

Stop jettisoning ore if you cant guard it. Or buy a mining ship and carry it back to base when your cargo is full. The indies are for transport not mining, use a ship designed for what you are doing and stop being greedy and trying to bully CCP into making your life easy!!!!!!!!!!
Man i am sick of this topic
Doh i just put it back at the top |

This topic is taking over the forums!
If you want to stop ore theft, stop abusing jettison cans. If you want to keep using them, live with the risk.

Wow great idea! Why didn't you name this topic "lets **** mining".
Mining is already pretty boring, and it make a decent amount of isk you have to mine for hours, no matter what ship your in or what your mining.
The cans are fine as they are, we don't need a dumbass like you spoiling EVE because of people who steal cargo. Cargo stealing is part of the game, I don't do it, but people steal in real life. And EVE is going for realism, not fictionism..

Edited by: Drake Kazayama on 08/09/2003 17:25:16 But doesn't it make sense that if we could trade in space, then the miners could give it to the indy... Thus eliminating the need for miners to use jet cans as storage?

USE THE BLOODY SECURE CANS

First off, there are several problems with mining.
1. unrealistic mining ships. Why do I need to buy a battleship to have the best mining ship? There should be civilian/industrial (NON-MILITARY) ships that are optimized for mining.
2. Secure containers DO NOT WORK.
3. No recourse/defense for Ore thieves. If I can shoot (and pod) you, you might think twice about it. Right now ore thieves are GRIEFERS who are EXPLOITING BUGS in the game, period.
Yes, if I have the luxury of mining with corpmates we have someone hauling, but that isn't always the case. Perhaps CCP should give everyone a free 2nd account until they fix the above items so idiots like you will be silent. |

well i agree with that..

actually secure containers DO work problem its only the small/medium and large ones that work atm :)

No, they are the cure against afk/macro miners
edit: added some more :P

I acknowledge that some of the secure containers work, so you would think it would be easy to fix the others...
Now with regard to the ore thieves doing community service by keeping the afk/macro miners in check, what's going to stop the macro ore thief? More importantly, allowing a miner to defend a container will not prevent an ore thief from stealing ore. Afk/macro miners won't even react to an ore thief, but a real player *could*, which would be an improvement.
Here's my analogy of ore thievery (in high sec space): You are sitting in your living room watching tv. Suddenly, an univited person shows up, walks in, grabs the tv and walks out the door. When you attempt to prevent her from taking your tv, the cops show up and kill you.

Ore theivery is fun, ok. I've done it and I've been subjected to it too. Makes you really run for the indyship.

C'mon, mining bores you to death. Jovian Disease right away.
Ore theft solves scriptmining, just steal from the scriptminers. They'll stop cheating the day after.
BTW: Where are there scriptminers? (Joking)

OK HERE IT IS!!! FOR ALL OF YOU :)
This is from the CCP Support section. They have responded and this is their response. So suck it up!
The regular containers were designed to jettison unwanted items into space or to hold loot from blown up ships. They were designed so that any player could take from them because that was essential for them to function as they were intended. Players later invented the "container mining" method after noticing that the containers could hold way more than any cargohold. This use for the containers was never intended and it has the obvious flaw that any player with a reduced sense of right and wrong can come by and take everything from the container and no one can do anything about it.
This risk should be known to all players and there will be no reimbursement for ore lost this way. Also, ore "theft" is not considered harrassment so no punishment will be dealt out to those who choose to "steal". Players who are thinking of taking up a career as ore thiefs should note that they will face a lifetime of unpopularity and unhappiness as a result.
CCP has decided to meet players halfway by implementing secure containers that can be bought on the market and have the advantage of being equipped with a password lock. These containers cost money and do not hold the vast amount of ore that the regular containers do. However, with good organization and frequent ore pickups using Industrial ships, they can be very useful for large scale mining operations.
The bottom line is: If you use regular containers to store your ore you assume all the risk. Having your valuables floating in space in an unsecure container is equivelant to throwing money on the street. Should you lurk nearby and wait for someone to take the money and then attack him, the police would deal with you, not him. The same goes in Eve. If you attack a player who just took "your" ore from a regular container in a system with a security level of 0.5 or higher. You will be destroyed by Concord.

ok i replied to a previous topic here i go again.i dont mind what they say about they containers and secure containers.the problem is the ships themselves.there is no ship really meant for mining .i mean come on do you really think a mining ship would have such little cargo space.if anything a indy would have 5 mining lasers.any movie you see that has a ship that is used for mining has drones and a huge place to store it.and with the game the way it is and mining soo boring it would take forever without doing it they way most are.at the very least let people fire at people who take ore from a container you are using. thats it if you dont like it tough.

just so you guys know, i'm one of the biggest ore recovery specialist out there. in fact, "ore recovery specialist" is a term i coined in the original ore theft topic. i'm just trying to come to a solution here.
once again, i propose they allow trade windows in space. then if people still use jet containers to store ore, not only can we nail them with "USE SECURES", but we can also yell at them to "USE TRADES" to give it to their friends in the indys.
Finally, if you don't like the conversation on ore theft... DONT F***ING READ IT! ITS THAT EASY! Your browser comes equipped with a freakin back button. USE IT. if you can't find it, try the little X in the upper right hand corner of your screen. If you can't find that, pack up your computer and set it on fire. It'll do you more good as a stove to cook your wooly mammoth you just killed, you barbarians!

Trade in space? are you on drugs? The cargohold on each cruiser is way to small and cruisers would just be sitting idle in space while the Indy is dumping ORE in the corp-hangar ... and what about solo-mining?
No First of all, you should be podded for bringin such a terrible idea to the forum
and second of all, Ore Thief's should get Concord attention .. like in real life.
But Im content about matters like they are today.
