Edited by: Serena Sinclair on 10/03/2006 19:14:29 What do you use for looting? I'm looking for things like:
1) what ship you use for looting 2) what mods that help you loot faster 3) any specific techniques you use to loot faster
Please don't bother posting just to say you don't bother looting. I understand that some people believe that you can make more cash on the average if you skip looting, and thats fine.

Just for picking up cans?
Something with a mwd and a tractor beam, dont know the fitting needs but maybe an exquerer? It has that cargo bonus, doesnt have as much as an inertia penalty like a battleship, and can still fend off some weak npc ships. |

Sigil, 5 nanos in lows, 10MN AB I in mids, 2 small tractors in high. Fly towards a can, hook it with the tractor, fly towards another one out of tractor range, hook that with the other tractor, approach a third can, rinse and repeat. The tractors sure speed things up! :)

Amarr Industrial ship, the Sigil.
Highs: 2 Tractor Beams / Tractor Beam + Cloak / whatever suits your fancy.
Meds : 10 MN Afterburner (Tech 2 if you want), 2 modules of your choice.
Lows : 5 Nanofiber Internal Structure
With basic skills (Amarr Frig 3, Amarr Industrial 1), that thing has a cargohold of 3150m¦ (more than enough even for the "heaviest" level 4 missions), can turn as fast as a frigate (if not faster with named nanofibers), flies at about 750 m/s with a T1 AB (around 1K m/s with a T2 AB) and can drag some cans to it while flying to another ...
Oh, and it's really cheap too.
I usually bookmark one of the lootcans in my mission (while in a "combat" ship) and come back after having finished the mission with the agent, switching to my looting Sigil.

If you mean just picking up cans after a mission then go with an indy with some tractor beams and an mwd and some nano's.
But if you're in danger of attack in low sec space then one of the cruisers with a cargo bonus is a nice idea. the exeq is good cause it has a sizeable drone bay that you can use for defense against targets. a shield tank, a nano or expander, a couple of WCS and an MWD plus tractors

I have a alt who flys a viator to loot for me while ratting.
Viator
High: Tractor beam
Mid: 10Mn AB or MWD (MWD is hard on cap, AB can run forever) 2 Hardner's
Lows: 3 Local Hull Nano's
With a ab you go around 800M/s, with a Mwd you go around 2500M/s
Has 3750M3, throw a giant secure can in there and your up to 4650M3

Yup, I like to setup a catalyst with 8 of them and then gather all the cans in one place, bring in a hauler (any will do) and pick them up without moving. ---- I <3 Taranis

You're not going to beat that. I have 2 (at different agent stations) set up exactly like this...works great. =======Abaddon=======

Exequror 4 tractor beams 10mn mwd large peroxide cap bat+cap recharger 3 best expanders you can afford 1 huge secure can in cargo (or whatever fits)
Basically you say you have completed the mission, warp to the bookmark, lock and tractor. As soon as a can comes within scoop range, remove its lock and start pulling the next can. Don't yet loot, first get every can you can (oops) within scoop range.
After that you open all cans within scoop range. You get tabbed window with lots of opened cans ..
Then move that tabbed window close to your cargo (or opened secure container) and do ctrl+a, drag, rinse and repeat untill everything is looted...
Most missions drop about 2k m3 of loot so this should be enough for most cases .. if not, one rewarp won't hurt. Faster than an indy with 2 beams IMHO...
Of course this works best when you don't move too much during the mission. Just aggro the groups one by one, they come close and get killed by the drones , so most cans end up within tractor range. Howeveer because with cap bat you can sustain MWD forever, you can as well resort to moving to faraway cans. Much faster than your indy - my usual looting Exeq has 1km/sec sustainable mwd speed...
Alternative variant would be the Battleship with expanders in lows, which gives about 2k cargo, and as much tractor beams as this BS has high slots. But this is an overkill :)

Edited by: Inspiration on 11/03/2006 12:40:31 Edited by: Inspiration on 11/03/2006 12:36:59 Typhoon =======
7 x small tractor 1 x auto targeter (gives 2 more locks)
2 x Cap recharger II 1 x 100MN afterburner II 1 x 100MN microwarp II
1 x local hull nanofiber 2 x partial hull expander 4 x alpha hull expander
* Gives 2100+ m3 capacity * Can operate in deadspace with AB and in normal space it had a MWD for the occational gap between can clusters. * Exremely efficient looter, simple nothing like it (except for a machariel fitted this way).
Expensive....yes, worth it if you use it a lot.....definatly. Its fun to use and earns itself back soon enaugh due to time saved...its that well performing. Most of the time I don't even need the AB as I can tracktor in 80-85% of the cans without moving and am limited by the speed at which I can lock new and empty tractored cans!

Man, that Typhoon setup is glorius overkill.
Sigil gets my vote, 2 tractors, T2 10MN AB, 2 cap rechargers, 5 nanos. With Nav 4, Amarr Industrial 2, I hit just over 900m/s on AB with both tractors running and never runs out of cap. It turns on a dime, normally doesn't overrun the can which is a time saver, 3300m¦ cargo space without a can. Cheap. Can normally clean up all the cans in a L4 extravaganza without running out of cargo space.

For L3 missions you can't go wrong (or run out of cargo space) with an Exequror. The 10% cargo space bonus per level of Gallente Cruiser has me at 780m3 with rank 3 in the skill. 4 tractor beams up high, MWD and cap batteries/rechargers in the middle, nanofibers down low. As described above, hook on and drag cans to you as you putter around can-dense areas. Use the MWD to quicky zip to the next area of cans. Cheap fast and effective!

I'm glad others think the Exequror is good for this. I'm not sure the Exequror isn't just a great ship overall. It doesn't get a lot of play in the forums, but for a cheap support ship, the Exequror is pretty nice. Good slot mix, great hold space, drone space, remote repair bonus. If it's a second toon following your main, stick some mix of remote reppers and tractors in the high slots.
