Does CCP realize that they're destroying whole industries with this crap they're giving away? Does the thought even manage to pass through their head?
Thanks, CCP, for screwing over your industrial base and the people that invested in blueprints and spent a countless amount of time in producing the stuff that you decided to give away, staring drunk at your computer screens.
The nice things about previous giveaway events is that you gave away stuff that couldn't necessarily be produced. Snowballs that melt, launchers that are only given away once and can not be produced, Genolution implants, stuff like that. But this year you thought it would be a fun idea to flood the market with random stuff and screw over people who actually spent their time producing it.
What happened to the player-made EVE we knew so well?
EDIT: In other words...

Funny things, that CCP has thought out, either something neat or to give us a laugh, or to laugh at themselves (boots.ini, A Tank Of Honor) - it would be so interesting and fun to see CCP give these sort of things out! It would remind us that, hey, we're a member of this community, and these things would mark that we played EVE during this time. These things are fun! But I don't think you realize the problem here. You're dismissing the importance of "Expanded Cargohold IIs and Prototype Cloaks". Someone - perhaps many people - spent hours of time investing in those. Mining, building, producing, selling. This is what makes EVE so interesting. Everything of significance is player made. But when CCP floods the market like this - they completely destroy everything those people have worked for if they produced these items. These people, who originally contributed to the market and availability of these items, have now lost a tremendous amount of time and ISK. In essence, what they have worked for has now become absolutely worthless (basic economics). This is what I mean when I say CCP has screwed over the industrial base that produced these items. I don't think I would be wrong at all in saying this. Legitimacy of a market economy is absolutely essential to maintain proper function of that market economy.
CCP, these gifts don't contribute much to the game. Why not give us something meaningful? Something unique - that would make us remember the eventful things in EVE over the past year? Something that reminds us that we are part of a massive community, a unique community, something that reflects over the year? |

OP, you really need to chill out.
Not to seem ungrateful towards CCP, but the gifts are not very substantial. I got a shuttle one day, 200 arkonor another day, a few T1 drones the next. Not stuff I want or need. I think a couple of the more valuable gifts were worth a million isk or so. I'll probably melt down the rest and maybe get 500k for those minerals. Not worth getting worked up over methinks. |

I'm not seeing the doom scenarios people mention in this thread.
I have 10x Expanded Cargohold II bpo and I don't really see what the fuss is all about. The market looks normal to me. So does the prototype cloak market (in fact the price of those went up over the past few days).
So yeah. uh.. whatever?
I do agree with the sentiment that CCP could have given more meaningful gifts. A Miner II doesn't particularly excite me. The only cool gift so far is the Fedo. Please stop trolling by trying to say the market is going to collapse over a small influx of general items, tech 1 or 2. Everything balances out in time. No one is getting the yule gifts every day year round or at production speeds. If anything mineral prices will effect the miners more than people in industry. They are happy for all the free scrap. And really, it's not going to have that much of an effect to have a bunch of random junk spewed around the universe. I'm probably going to reprocess most of mine because I can't be bothered to ship it or sell it. If it does have a huge effect and your margins are affected, then you picked a bad item to produce since that means a small volume of items was able to shift the entire economic state of that item.

Here's another thing. How many of these items were given out? What does that compare to the volume currently on market, the volume sitting in inventories, and the rate of production across New Eden? I'm willing to bet that the number is actually relatively small compared to these metrics. Keep in mind that these items are given only to active accounts where the player bothered signing into the site and redeeming the items in the first place. And on top of that, those of us who have done all that only to see its just general odds and mods, have not even bothered redeeming them. I would be surprised in more than 60% of people who claimed them, actually redeemed. |

Why give us anything at all? The developers of this game are not required to give you a thing during this holiday season but have instead decided, yet again, to give out a random series of gifts to every account for a period of twelve days. Your market games and industrial issues will be resolved in a short period of time though your attitude of entitlement might take quite a bit longer to come back to center. |

Never got an Advent Calender myself but that kid in 'Bad Santa' had one, it came with Candy Corn and Rolaids. And smelled like a drunk hobo used it as a back scratcher.
As for the Industry claim, this time they didn't just dump the stuff in our hangers people actually have to go through a 2 part process to get the stuff, some are to lazy to go to the advent calender or don't even care. So it can't be that big of a deal. Stop complaining.

In other news.... Traders report that the market for Fedos has skyrocketed. On about the fifth day of the Lads visits, there were approximately six Fedos in Contracts, with prices ranging from 10 to 12 mil ISK. As of this correspondent's last check, there were approximately 25 Fedos in contracts, with prices ranging from 22 to 25 mil ISK. In other words, contrary to conventional market thinking, both item supply and item price have gone up.
Some economists argue to this is a unique market anomaly, which they are calling the "Yule Lads Effect." But others insist that it is simply a variation of a phenomenon known as the "Beanie Babies/ Webkinz Effect." All agree that fortunes stand to be made or lost in the Fedo market. |

This is what I mean by the "Ritalin-fueled Min/Max" player. They have their ISK maximized to the 00001th fraction and so fragile (and obsessed) that ONE THING that CCP does that changes it to .0001 less ISK and they scream. The PVPer version of this kind of player does the same thing over KB stats.
This kind of player is not playing the game, they are like this in every aspect of their lives and this game is just another facet. |

So, is this a good/bad/neutral thing? Not sure from reading your replay |

Good: Entertainment for us as we watch people cry rivers because their little aspergergian alpha world just popped.
Bad: For the forums, and the people who have to live around them in RL (though those people are probably the enablers too, and maybe deserve what they get)
Neutral: I love how CCP don't give a crap and I am happy to give my money to what is probably the last organization on earth that does not give a crap about how people "feel". |

Maybe overly passionate in presentation, but the OP's logic is sound. And I could see the industrialists minding the manipulation. I think people are being a bit insensitive because they do not identify with the gameplay, but an attack on one aspect of gameplay should be denounced by all players. Or your style of gameplay could be next. This thread has so much content it may be 'Thread of the Year' and it is only January.
