Part of the fun of being a pirate is the raw PvP aspect of it. But it seems like pirates don't fight the toughest opponents--each other. Or am I mistaken, and have epic pirate wars been fought for control of carebear rich systems?

Sadly, that is how it is: ie, pirate on pirate violence.
I've always advocated focusing on the destruction of the pathetic carebear and his alliance hugging ways.
But I certainly respect the impact of boredom on Eve and on pirates. It creates the situation were a fight is a fight, irregardless of who's your opposition.

not boredom, pirates just drop better loot and are more vulnerable, I just wish there were more pirates to kill.

Edited by: Gen Kumon on 12/03/2006 04:19:20 Oh, yeah. I love catching other pirates in belts, while they're trying to catch someone else. Nothing like making some newb pirate in a cruiser panic when a big old Ferox comes out of warp right on top of him and then webs/scrams him.
Not to mention some pirates will come out and duel 1v1 for rights over territory. That's always fun.

I try and avoid fights with other pirates, since often enough they'll BBQ my arse back to the stone age. But if i think i stand a chance, their toast, or i die trying (since, unlike the lucky NPC'er that forces me to warp off, pirates have warp scrams). I'm not picky about who i killed. If their not blue and i think i ahve a chance, i give it a go

Oh, yeah. Mostly over territory in low sec. I don't know if any of the big corps like Snigg have gotten involved in wars with other pirates, but I'd frankly be shocked if they haven't...that said, us pirates can be funny. We'll blow each other up, and then team up, sometimes within the same day. As far as I can tell, pirates hold a lot less of a grudge than most miners/whatever do.

That lower grudge holding comes from us all being equally hated by miners/carebears/etc.

I only fly t1 frigs with t1 gear. I've fought pirates before, but I've only ever engaged a fight with a pirate once.
Blew up a Merlin who had very nearly beaten me in the past today. He forgot the NPCs in the belt :D.

We fight other pirates but we also give them the respect they deserve for doing the same job as we do. PvP with other pirates is usually more fun AND fellow pirates don't smack afterwards - they're "usually" all good sportsmen, as am I if I get owned - we just shut up and die like soldiers ;-)
Myself personally, prefer not to pod another pirate if I take his ship - but sometimes there are exceptions of course.

Pirates always pay the ransom, and don't carry stabs. Then when you're done you can have a nice little chat and go hunting together afterwards.

In my opinion other pirates in your hunting grounds are competitors, so you have to take them out of the equation. More often than not Ill go for a pirate over another kill. Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur. |

My list of priorities:
1. Other pirates - Eliminate the biggest threat, fitted for PvP, I would hate for these to jump on me while taking out a target.
2. Anti-pirates - Every pirate should loathe these, usually fitted for PvP, these folks will actively hunt specifically you just to make you feel the loss.
3. General targets - Miners, belt ratters, noobers in low-sec, its all the same, really.

some of the best pvp comes from pirates so its the best way to see who is the best and get a a good fight and it is always done with respect cos you no you could be getting your ass kicked by these guys the next gate you jump through and most of us pirates have a chat and a laugh when we see each other its all part of the fun

Our engagements with pirates so far have been the most fun. Pirates are more likely to end a fight with 'good job guys' or something then with 'x!@#@#$!!!!!111, you !#$@%#! blew up my ship!'

I have noticed that when I kill another pirate, they are really cool about it, and we end up adding each other to friends lists and belt hunt together
The carebears are downright abusive when you kill them... they're personal RL insults. These usually happen when they are in a pod, being scrambled by me... so I decide to kill them and block them to avoid further smackage ----------------------------------------------- Guys, we win some and we lose some, but please, can we win this one? Sure they do. Today we warped in and were just nearly about to snag a stabber in Amamake with our lil squad. We had seen a rival Domi scouting for targets, and sure enough, 2 away from nabbing the target the Domi warps in on top of him.
At the time we figure we can't possibly win so we withdraw, unhappily.
The next thing we hear in local is the other pirate complaining about our original target having too many stabs. Irony ftw.
In hindsight, had we thought about it, and provided it would actually work, our secondary EW guys might have hampered those drones till we grinded through them. Does EW even work on drones? I doubt we would have had the dps to knock down a moderately tanked Domi even if we were able to shut down the NOS. Maybe if we had employed our jaw dropping diplomatic skills on the spot and recruited the original victim to assist..

if you jam and fire before he launches drones they wont attack, we used to take out well tanked bs with a minimum of 5 t1 frigates.

Pirates shoot pirates all the time.
What bugs me is naps between big alliances especially the supposedly all powerful alliances who might have some decent fights, but deprive their pilots of that thru naps and thus lose lots of the best non-blob pvprs to smaller corps.

This is still the case with new drone AI? If so, we might not have to avoid drone heavy battleships :) More targets is good.
Does this work against Carriers? I understand their drones are smarter.
