Hello, beautifull game but....
The first ship top speed "nmpuls speed" is 260 m/s, metre per second???
that is to much slowly that is only 930 km/hour ,for a small ship with
4 rocket engines??? even the apollo 2 from 1969 was 10 times faster!!!
Is it not km per second??? km/s it have to be km/s!!
Or is it not metre per second ??, i hope so otherwise it is very
painfull to play.
I hope i am wrong , do you want to explane me please?

It is meter/second.
And if it's hard to fathom, imagine a prefix K to the "m/s" on your screen and your set.

Most ships in sci-fi games go pretty slow compared to real spacecraft. An interceptor in Freespace 2 doesnt even break 200 m/sec. A homeworld 2 battlecruiser goes about 90 if memory serves.

The Apollo II had a Saturn rocket under it.
It's logic internal to the game. If it helps, imagine that impulse speed is limited by the size of the full available in such small ships.

another "think of it like this" post (hopefully a bit more usefull too  )
to get real world speeds you have to have real world size and time. the real space craft go freakin fast and take freakin agest to get anywhere. i'm sure you dont want to wait over an hour for a simple docking request cos if you hit that station at speed you gonna be space dust  so the game has beed compresed down, distances are smaller and time to cross them is smaller, this makes for smaller speeds. when you only have to travel 15 km for your average trip the speeds you see in this game sort of feel right. think about how far 15km is on foot, or by bus or car? can you cross that distance in under 3 seconds? my space ship can with a large rack of skills and an mwd. (yeah, if your a speed demon then get an interceptor with an mwd, its just MMmmmmmmmm)
a lot of this game is great cos it turns your brain on, but you still have to turn a blind idea to a few fudges they have made for the greater good of the game play. so sit back and relax, its still a great game when you get into it

For any distance over 100'ish km the ships have warp drive. Which, depending on the ship kicks them around at speeds up to 13 au/sec or so.
For shorter distances a ship with correctly set up propulsion moves at 500-4000 m/sec. More than enough to cover that 100 km in reasonable time (slightly over 3 minutes in worst case)
