Hi, I'd like to know, would Electronic Warfare be useful at all for a non-PVP Miner? I just defend against NPC Pirates usually, is EW only useful for PVP

Nah, I usually scramble and web the roids so they don't run.
More seriously... NPC's has very high values on their sensors and radars... So it's kinda impossible to jam them

Only *useful* for PvP - No.
Only *practical* for PvP - Yes.
NPC ships have insanely high sensor strengths.
For example, while some of the best cruisers have around 12 strength in a single sensor type, some NPC cruiser pirates flying "lesser" ships will have 15 in ALL sensor types.
Even some frig pirates have 12-15 in all sensor types.
You CAN jam NPCs - It is just not practical to do so. (With tech 2 or tech 3 jammers this might be a different story, but since multispecs eat cap at an insane rate, it's not worth it to try to jam NPCs.) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Thank you.
Do NPC Pirates use EW at all? (jamming, scrambling, etc) and if so... what Skills do I need to counter it?
I'm not thinking of using EW against *them*, just using it to prevent them messing *me* up

NPC's use warp scramblers, well the medium to very nasty ones do
Carry a warp core stabalizer, if you don't have the gunns to blast them

That's not enough. All NPC pirates that use warp scramblers, has a range of 25 km, and they scramble with a strength of 2. So you need 2 warp core. And there is also a big risk that you gets scrambled by more than 1 NPC at a time. ie, you'll have to carry like 6 warp cores if you want to bet away from NPCs
But no, no NPC use any EW (except scrambling and webbing). You'll not find a pirate using ECM, sensor dampeners or weapon disruptors.

This is not entirely true. The lesser NPC pirates have scrambling ranges that vary from 5k-20k range... Just an FYI...

Have I been wasting my time webifiy NPC 'rats (generally don't venture deeper than .4 space)?
I usually just throw a web on a rat when he comes close, Hammerheads swarm, 'rat goes bye bye.

2 tac shields, 2 tracking cpu's, 3 webbers and a mwd = my favourite scorpion npc setup
Webify them and then let your projectiles pick them apart.

Since the big tracking nerf, webifiers have been VERY useful for killing NPCs.
75% reduction in target speed = equivalent of 4x the tracking speed. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

This is very much true. Very handy. I believe the tracking suppressors also work on NPCs. It's mostly just target locking that džesn't work against npcs. I have in fact heard, although I have no proof, that in fact all EW effects are shared among all rats in a belt (unless this is a bug that was fixed) so you might get even more bang for your buck on some EW gear....
