Im jsut about to start lvl2 missions for caldari navy - which ship type is best
im thinking AF - and i can fly cadari/gal AF's but dont know which one to choose (e.g. which is best for tanking the npc's)

Gallente AF would probably be best because of their high natural Kinetic and Thermal resistances which is what you will enounter the most in those missions. Try this setup:
Enyo:
4x 125mm railgun II/Proto Gauss if you can't use that
1x Arbalest Standard with kinetic missiles (bloodclaws I think)
Mids:
1x 1mn AB II/best named AB
1x X5-web (or best you can afford)
Lows:
1x SAR II/ Acommodation SAR
1x EANM II/ best named EANM you can afford
2x Cap Power Relay
That would all require engineering and electronics 5 to fit but you'd be able to put up a pretty mean tank and just pulse the repper as necessary.

For cheapness and speed, Moa can do every lvl2 mission. For a bit of class (but make them too easy), Harpy will see you into and through the lvl3's aswell.

caracal can do all lvl2 misions fast and easy

My ship Cracal + 5 Assault Missle Launcher + 2 Large Shield Extender + afterburner, shield booster, etc. Short distance battle, easy to pick up containers later.
On Lvl.2 caldary combat missions prepere to battle many missle launchers like Kestrel.

Caracal is a good choice, it will works fine . Most of the ennemy you will face are frigate size, so use assault launchers. You will kill them faster than with heavies and u will also spare money using less missiles. There is only 1 or 2 missions where u will face cruisers, so if you re in trouble, warp and install heavies instead.

caracal do lvl 2 kill missions for fun....u can put all heavies....af might take longer to kill but u wont have to change launchers all the time..........

Ive done about every level 2 mision so far in my caracal and never once installed heavies and i have had no problems. Caracal is great.
