I don't play the game because of the Xmas gifts, and frankly I've still got a buzz from the Leopard, and will for some time to come.

Don't get me wrong, the Leopard is a fantastic gift, but if you think that's exciting you should try a ship with guns attached.

"Icelandic tradition" - I simply smiled about it all being as different areas hold different traditions for such things.
I'm a reluctant fan of this season - a time of year set aside to give and share, even as heavily commercialized as it is, the "spirit" of the season is where I find the value outside of any religious attachments to it from this or that sect.
It took time and effort from CCP's staff to arrange to give the gifts we got. It looks like they had a lot of fun with makeup and costumes so I'm glad they had a good time with the giving. As such, I figure a thank you is about all I'll toss out. They don't "owe" me anything beyond providing a workable game world for my play time.
So, in the spirit of the season: Happy holidays to you and yours; may you prosper over the next year.  |

It's a nice change from the usual isn't it. Note, even christmas isn't celebrated on the same day in every country (some have christmas on the 24th, others on 25th and there's some even on 26th) So you could say CCP did give a gift on christmasday (24th!) Add to that, you got plenty of non-christian holidays around this time of the year. As this is a global game you cannot please everyone.
I like that they picked the Yule for two reasons, it reminds us this period isn't celebrated by christians alone, but by many other people as well, for a variety of reasons. Second, it avoids the whole *Why not Chanouka, Lightfestival, etc etc, if you celebrate Christmas!)
Next time you ask in any other gameforum *why don't you celebrate another country's version of the holidays! You can remind them to add the Yule tradition to it.
So to stay neutral, and to show the bonding: Happy Holidays to everyone!

I think there is an explanation in the Yule Lads videos, or maybe it was on the Avent Calendar why it was done the way it was. |

CCP celebrates what they feel like. You're free to celebrate whatever you want. CCP doesn't force you to celebrate any particular thing, nor should you try to force them to cater to your "special needs" either. The Euro commission is in Brussels, you might want to try there. |

To answer the question you asked CCP is in Iceland so they want to spread the Icelandic culture. Just like a US game would celebrate US holidays.
However CCP also puts in other holidays as well. July 4th for example we got some fireworks for our festive launchers. |

Noridc cultures do indeed put more emphasis on the 24th then the 25th.
And it's indeed a bit of a strange feeling for the rest of the world: it's like you are going to look at a rocket -launch and when they get to 1 everyone goes back home and the rocket stays on the platform
I think we just have to look at it as we have learned to look at every expansion : CCP puts a lot of effort into creating something nice. But somehow they always succeed in screwing it up a little for a part of their player base  Oh wel. We'll survive. And we did got a nice shuttle :)
